Texas Tech Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN 2019

Hey, all

Wanted to start a thread for those applying to the Spring 2019 program.

What location will you be applying to? Anyone else in Austin?

Any information/advice from current students is appreciated!

Side note: I totally dig the red scrubs. :inlove: Haha

So, first semester was definitely the most expensive.. roughly around $600-$800, maybe more. Just depends on how good of a shopper you are.

The last two semesters are around $100-$300... if you RENT.

Highly suggest renting books, because they're all hella expensive and a lot of the books we didn't even use or really didn't even need to use them.

Okay, thank you so much!! I'm currently dying just looking at the first semester textbook list.

for sure. I know most of us in the LBK cohort are even selling those texts so you want to reach out to pass students!

First I would like to say congrats to everyone who got into the program!!I am currently a student at the Abilene location and we are done with school Friday. I am selling all of the books I have from the year (all required) in a bundle for $500!! I know it seems like a lot but as you can see above, they get really expensive. I feel like most people spend around what was just listed for purchased or rented books and a lot of the books that you use in the first semester come in a lot of handy in later semesters. I have heard that the book list is not changing editions which is good. A few of my books are from later editions but the teachers are always accommodating and give page numbers for both. Also, and I think more importantly, I believe that a lot of the quizzes and tests are information drawn from these later editions which makes it beneficial for studying and taking open book quizzes (I would find alot of information almost verbatim in my books)! I will attach my school email and can hand deliver books to Abilene this week or can leave it with a teacher, Dallas the week of the 17th (and multiple other times, I visit a lot and will be living there in January) and Lubbock the weekend of graduation ( Decemeber 14th-16th). I also live in the Houston area if anyone is from there and would love to meet up there to deliver books too! I am also here to answer any questions that anyone might have about the Abilene cohort, living far away from home and anything else that comes to mind

Contact me at [email protected] !!

Good luck to all of you and get ready for one heck of a year!

Hey everyone! I am selling all of the texts for the program & have included some additional resources free, as well! I've made a spreadsheet with the retail prices vs. asking price for my set, and I'm happy to discuss it with you! I'm graduating from the Abilene cohort (I will be there tomorrow for orientation), will be in Lubbock 12/14 & 12/15 for graduation, or I am from the DFW area. I can get the books pretty easily to students from any of those cohorts! You can email me at [email protected] :-)

I'm actually planning on applying for Spring 2020, but wanted to know if any of you happened to take LoneStar's Pathophysiology? I'm trying to see if that will transfer/satisfy the Pathophysiology requirement, because that's the only prerequisite I'm missing, and I'd hate to have to spend $1000+ as a transient student when I could just do it through a community college for much less.

Would the people who were admitted mind sharing their gpas, teas score, experience, etc? I am applying to the spring 2020 accelerated program and I want to see the statistics for getting into the program! Thanks your yalls information!

Hello, I am in the Austin cohort! I had a 3.5 gpa, I’m not sure about my science gpa but it was lower than that. I got an 86 on the TEAS. Didn’t have much clinical experience but had 100 hours of doctor office shadowing, 100 hours of shadowing different areas of the hospital, internship with Susan G Komen, and some other volunteer work! I think a lot of it has to do with the interview so make sure to go online and research old interview questions for this program because my questions were identical. Also, I’m a TTU grad so I think that also helped me as well!

Hi there! Also in the Austin cohort.

• Cumulative GPA 3.88 (biology undergrad)

• TEAS comprehensive score 95

• Worked full time as a PCT in an ICU for 8mos before starting school

• some volunteer experience at the hospital prior to my job (not a ton!)

• not entirely sure what percentage was admitted from who applied but I was on this forum for last year and I think a large amount of people who interviewed were offered a position.

• don’t get bogged down and focused on academia alone, tech really does a holistic approach and admits based on the entire student portfolio!

Thanks for sharing! One quick question about the application portal. I haven't submitted my application yet because I cannot figure out where to upload my supporting documentation. For example my certifications. Do I have to submit the application and then I am to upload them?

You will submit it and then it'll show you where to upload everything!

Hello everyone! I am currently in the San Antonio Cohort! Just 6 months left.

So, I had an 89 on the teas with a 3.8 GPA. I had NO prior experience in the human medical field. So, really anyone can get in with the bare minimum-just WOW them in the interview. They are generally the same for everyone. There will also be a personal statement (small paragraph) that they will want you to write if you are offered an interview. Good luck!

Hi! I got accepted to the 2020 Austin Cohort, and would like to connect with the 2019 class, esp those in Austin. I was hoping for some quick advice on:

1) is working part-time (2 shifts per week) or PRN (1 shift) doable?
2) where to get scrubs? are any of the men, ideally in Austin, planning to sell their's?
3) which books should we buy and which should just be rented? who wants to sell their set?
4) any advice on how to study and stay on top of assignments and prepare for exams?
5) what frequency should we aim for in regard to knocking out the 225 hr clinicals requirement? that's 19 12-hr shifts. there's 16 weeks for the Spring semester. is it possible to load up at the beginning and have less towards the end when i would expect the end of semester to be crazy with deadlines etc.
6) did the cohort organize study groups? once-a-week seems like a good frequency. what worked for your cohort study groups?

TIA!
Mitch
