Texas State University Fall 2014

Published

This forum is for Fall 2014 applicants at the Round Rock campus. Deadline is fast approaching, January 15, so get your applications in. Feel free to share any questions, concerns, tips with your peers. What made you decide on nursing? What previous health care experience do you have? What is your current science GPA, overall GPA, and TEAS score? What is your previous degree, if any?

I have not yet! I am freaking out and checking my email constantly! I am temted to call the school, but I know that they do not send them all out at the same time, and I am sure they are getting a ton of calls as it is!

I received the background check e-mail late January and my background check appointment is 02/19/2014.

Fearn1ek, What is your current science GPA, overall GPA, and TEAS score?

I have a 4.0 in science, a 3.7 overall, and my TEAS overall was at 87.5. I got a 97 on both science and reading, did ok in math around an 85 but I barely got the min in English.

I'm trying not to panic because I know that they do take awhile to get all those emails out, from reading past posts and just from talking with other people, but I'm starting to get worried!

Fearn1ek,

Did you get an e-mail from SON that said they had received your application for admission and review of applications start Jan. 15,2014?

When did you turn in your application for admissions into SON?

Are you done with all prerequisite courses or do you still have some courses to take, if so, which ones?

I turned in my application Dec. 17,2013 and got the e-mail that SON had received my application on Dec. 18,2013. On Jan. 17,2014 I received the background check e-mail from SON.

I turned in my application the day it was due. Took it in person to the campus and turned it in at the admissions office. I never got an email stating that they received it, but didn't really expect to since I turned it in on campus.

I have a few courses left, just the 2 activities courses and a humanities credit. All the important science and pre-req classes are complete already

Fearn1ek, I think you are just fine. I did not receive an email for either the application under review or for a background check. However today I received a letter in the mail from the Texas Board of nursing stating that they were asked for clearance for an RN program at Texas State for me. I submitted a Declatory order about two years ago and was cleared however I made the mistake of putting LVN rather than RN so pretty much over the phone they told me that Texas State was running my social, I believe if you have ever dealt with the Texas Board of nursing or are a Texas resident they went through them rather than through you personally. Or maybe they just checked with them first because so many nursing students have to do finger prints with them. So then I called Texas State to ask if I should send them copies of my Declatory order, the lady told me not to worry about it, and once the admission letters have been mailed then those are asked to be sent in. You're going to get in!

Thats interesting...I do volunteer for st davids hospital and have had to run background checks with them..so maybe they just use that..but I assumed since I havent had my fingerprints done it wouldnt work...idk..I wont rest easy until I get some sort of comminication!

Well it sounds like you both (fearn1ek,Blair14) have had previous criminal background checks and is the reason you haven't been asked to get one.

Does anyone know if you have to have your cleared criminal background check blue postcard from Texas Board of Nursing, mailed back to St. David's School of Nursing Admissions Office before end of March 2014 admission letters are sent?

OR

Does it just have to be mailed back by the June 20,2014 due date and wont affect your admissions into SON by the end of March 2014?

I received my fast pass on Feb. 4. I received clearance from the BON last year so i did not have to repeat the background check this year or receive clearance again, even though i did receive the email to initiate the background check. They come in waves, so be patient! I am a re-applicant and received my fast pass last year in mid-march.

Ok y'all, so now I'm getting nervous! I was cleared over two years ago by the BON, but since it was LVN and not RN, of course I had to re submit a declaratory order, they said it'll go quicker than the first one, but has anyone ever had to do this?! Is Texas state not going to approve me because of this?! Anyone have any idea?

Ps. I told y'all in my last post but it was the BON who contacted me after The SON contacted them asking for my clearance.

Blair14, i would probably contact the BON if i were you and ask them your question. And submitting a new decloratory order for RN isn't a bad idea.. better safe than sorry! I recieved clarence from the BON last year but still recieved a fast pass from the SON this year. It may still be coming... they send them out in waves.
