New Texas Graduate Nurses: Please read and respond!

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi all,

I graduated from school on May 17 in the Houston area and I have not received my verification letter/permit to test from the Board yet. I'm supposed to start working on Monday, and I am worried that if I do not have my letter by Monday morning when I'm supposed to orient that I'll have trouble keeping my job, as this hospital only orients once a month. :o So I wanted to ask you all:

1. What area of the state are you from?

2. When did you graduate?

3. Have you received your letter yet?

4. If so, when is your test date?

Thanks for your help.

Have you double checked with your school and made sure there were no problems and that they actually sent out the necessary papers the state needs from the school. I am sorry I can't tell you how long it takes my double check with the school.

If you are talking about your letter from NCLEX,, i graduated the 17th and just recieved mine today,, June 7th. I still have yet to get my letter from my state licensing board telling me i can work license pending until i pass, but expect it any day too. I dont know about Texas but in my state you can do the classroom orientation without the letter, but cannot go onto the floor for orientation until you have your letter from your state board saying you can work under supervision.

Good luck, i know its frustrating to wait but maybe it will come soon, if not in the next week i would call the nursing program and inquire as to a number for Chauncey Group to call for verification that they recieved your application for NCLEX.

Why not call your state board?

Yesterday I ran up to school to talk with the director of my program, but she is now on vacation (what a time for her to leave...) so I told my problem to the secretary and she and i sat down to call the state board. It's almost impossible to get through, and it took several tries, but I got through and this lady told me that they had only printed them on the 6th! And, our GN letter wouldn't be valid until the 17th!

So I went home and called the hospital that I'm going to be working at and talked to the DON and she said that she knew our letters were late and she had talked to the head of human resources and they decided we could still come on Monday, they'd put "Nursing Services" on our badges instead of any title and for our pay, they'd pay us as a nurse aide. Then, when our letters come, they would change everything to GN. I'm a little worried about the legality of all this though. :uhoh3: I don't want to lose my RN even before I get it! The DON also said she's never had this much trouble with the TX BNE before.

All we're going to be doing is classroom stuff for like the first two weeks, but this lady that talked to the director of my program said that you can't even orient b/c you're being classified as a GN and being paid as such...

I know our paperwork was sent off when it was supposed to, b/c that's all our director could talk about the week of graduation...

But it's so aggravating that the board is moving so slow when there are so many new nurses trying to start working! :( All of the hospitals I've talked to around here start their programs in early June, but nobody (in my class, anyway) has their letter so what are we all to do?
