LoneStar-- Kingwood ADN program ranking criteria

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello,

Can anyone tell me why the higher grade in either 2401 A&P I or 2402 A&P II along with PSYC 2301, AND ENG 1301 can be used to factor your GPA for the ADN program at LoneStar North Harris, Tomball, Cy-fair, Montgomery except for Kingwood College. Kingwood college only accepts 2401 A&P I to use to factor your G.P.A. along with PSYC 2301 & ENG 1301. I am curious to know why. I want to apply at LoneStar Kingwoods evening program becasue I have a fulltime job during the day. My higher score is in A&P II (A) & my A&P I score is a (B). Now I must take A&P I again to get an "A" to become more competitive at Kingwood. If I was applying at any other of the LoneStar campus besides Kingwood, my "B" in A&P I would not be a problem because my higher grade is in A&P II. I thought the LoneStar colleges are all on one ranking system?

Thank You

Has anyone applied to or been in HCC's program? It is a joke. They set you up to fail. Bottom of the barrel professors. Retaking Psych and A&P to raise from B to A for acceptance to LoneStar.

Why do you insult the program at HCC? Did you flunk out or what? I have not applied anywhere yet, but the instructors for any nursing program must meet certain qualifications in order to teach. We want what they have already achieved, the RN behind our names. So can you elaborate more about their program. I know ppl who have graduated from many of the schools in the Med Ctr, and no one had an easy ride, so what did you put into it? How did they set you up to fail? I commend you on retaking courses so that you can apply to Lonestar, just wanted to get clarification from you. Still trying to decide exactly which school(s) I will apply to.

I have not applied there b/c I'm out of district (double the price b/c I don't live is HISD) but, I work in an outpatient facility with someone that worked their butt off and made a 74 the first semester. Failed by 1 point. Most of her class was repeaters. I know someone else that goes there and took pediatrics last semester. Out of a class that started out with about 70 students, 20 passed. I've heard many stories about the professors even before my co-worker didn't pass. Too many to even get started. No, I will not even apply there.

First of all I don't think it is right to downgrade a program that you are not even in. Just to let you know Nursing school is very very hard no matter where you go rather it be HCC, Kingwood, or even CyFair. You get out of it what you put into it. Yes there are some failures but there also are some that make it through. My coworker just graduated in May from HCC and just found out yesterday that she passed the NCLEX. Obviously they are doing something right their pass rates have been pretty good for the past few years. I am currently in their program and I have had bump in the road already but in all I am doing well I only have 3 semesters left and I will be done. So don't judge an entire school by a few complaints. I feel that if I fail then that is on me I have to work harder to make the 75 that is required to pass. So good luck in getting into a program and remember you get out of it what you put into it!!!!!!

They may have a good NCLEX passing rate b/c the only people left are the really smart ones. What is their pass/fail rate on classes? Not good I'm sure. That's why all of the repeaters. My friend also said that a couple of the professors are nowhere to be found during clinicals. They complained about it. I'm just giving people the heads up. That's what this site is for. If you can get into another program, go there instead of HCC.

You are going by what someone has told you if I went by what people told me I wouldn't even be in nursing school now. I have heard negative things about every nursing program in the Houston area. Also just to let you know that it is not the "smart ones" that make it through the program. The ones that are hard working, goal oriented, and dedicated are the ones that make it through. So you have your opinion and I have mine but I do wish you the best of luck on your journey in getting into nursing school. "Only the strong survive".

I cannot comment on HCC ADN Program, since I plan to take this coming January. I do know you must take and pass HESI, in addition to passing their Pharmacology math test no matter who you took pharmacology with, before you can enter their ADN program. They are in district for me, and 10 mins away from where I live. Hope it won't be too bad. Wish me luck!

I'm so glad I found this thread-I am not quite as far along as most of you in this process, but I am also going to Kingwood for their nursing program (I hope!). The only pre-req's I have left at A&P II and Micro. I'm planning to take both at Kingwood college. Does anyone know anything about William Clark for A&P II? Who is the best professor to take at Kingwood? I did the first part at North Harris with Susan Allen...she is really challenging, but a GREAT professor. I really enjoyed her class. And any suggestions for Micro....who to take? I am pregnant right now, so it will be a while before I actually apply....but I'd like to get all the pre-req's out of the way, then stay home with my new baby for about 6 months before I apply. (I'm due Christmas day of 09). I want those 6 months to be uninterrupted by classes, so I hope to finish before I have it! I'm taking A&P II as a summer II course, and Micro in the fall.

Thanks, any info is much appreciated! And good luck to all of you who are already ready to begin the application process! :yeah:

Dr. Clark is the best professor I have had my whole college life. He is an OB/GYN so he teaches on the clinical side of the anatomy and physiology. which is great seeing that everyone that take his class is going into some health profession. I just finished his class this spring with a 101 as the final grade. He goes over the material in such detail, but in such a way that you dont get bored. Absolutely awesome!!!!
