Brianna,

WAY TO GO!!! I am SO PROUD of you! :icon_hug: :balloons:

Are you at EC or NL?

Amy

EC, but i'm in THR's distance program. It's the same material and some of the same instructors.

Thanks everybody!!!! I'm going to relax for a week or so  and then start reading for Pharm. I really need this break.....

Specializes in ante/postpartum, baby RN.

I have just turned in my clinical selection paper to ECC and I have seen a paper on their door. It says that from fall 2006 health care professionals have to take pharma and patho as prereq.

What?!?! I thought that was for the in-coming students.... I was just taking Pharm to be prepared for the drug test! So how long to we have to get those classes done?

I wonder if that is going to include the pre-nursing students? they already make most of the other program students take all the HPRS classes (pharm, Basic skills I&II, Wellness etc). For the surg tech program at El Centro I had to take Pharm and a bunch of HPRS classes along with my science, English, speach and humanities electives.

Amybe they are adding patho and pharm to the nursing pre-req's to help lower the application numbers. I am sure they are stressed with the 400- 600 applicants they are getting a semester.

Don't worry pharm at El Centro was easy and patho is taught online and in minimesters on occasion.

if it were for fall '06 entries for rn, then you'd think they would let us know. we could take it during the summer. i'd take one of those & not stats if i knew it i'd have to take it during the program.

it may be for those wanting to start in fall '07. it does say as a pre-req. (they would have to give a year's notice to allow those students to take the additional classes.)

there's been rumors that the application was going to change. so, i'm sure this is it. something has to be done about the way the application process is. 1 b in 13 credits shouldn't beat out 1 b in 30 credits. imho

Yeah I'd heard that to. I guess they really are worried about the high number of applicants. And think about it, what would happen if they got more 4.0's one semester than they had spaces? I am sure they have a plan, but it would be a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Pharm and Path used to be offered online and in the minimesters. As long as they continue that trend this might not be TOO much of a delay for FUTURE applicant. It would be rather unfair for this Fall's incoming class though.

I wouldn't have a problem with taking them.....next summer! I chose to have all of my classes completed before I started in order deal with only nursing classes & clinicals.

As for too many 4.0's than seats...THAT HAPPENED! For Spring '06, there were 15 students that had 4.0's that didn't get accepted!

Beyond that, there were 15 students with 3.77 and all support classes completed, that obviously didn't get in either..... Again, 13 credits beat out 30. :uhoh3:

Shameful....

That paper wasn't specific for nursing students. I think they will let us know if we need to take those two courses for a degree. The paper said to take those courses as a prereq.

Yeah, if they are pre-reqs starting in fall 06, then I need to get busy for Spring 07. Does anyone know how we can find out for sure if this applies to nursing students, and if so, when does it go into effect?

As for the application process, personally, I like it. It is the reason I picked this program over another. Luckily, I asked what GPA it took to get in, and learned that I needed the 4.0 to be competitive and made sure to study hard. If I had to have all pre-reqs and support classes done, it would take me longer to get in (earliest would be Spring 08). In Tarrant County they use a different process where all classes are taken into account and people with 4.0s but missing one support class cannot get in compared to someone who barely passed all the classes (so I've been told). It is a major bummer than the one B kept you out for a semester so I can see why it would frustrate you.

I guess every method has its problems. We could have waiting lists like some states, where it takes years to get into a program.

First semester teacher said they were planning on changing the application process because there were a lot of people coming in to the program who did not know A&P. Not sure exactly what they will be doing but she did say they were changing some things.
