applying to lone star colleges for fall 09

U.S.A. Texas

I'm new to this site. I've been coming here browsing for a while, but I hadn't seen anyone posting yet if they were applying at any of the lone star colleges for fall 2009. I just took my HESI and unfortunately only got an 87.23 so that puts my scores at 11.1892 and I don't think I'll get in now. I'll apply at Montgomery as my first choice, then north harris, tomball, and cy-fair. If I don't get in I guess I'll have to try to either retake the Hesi next semester or retake my english 1301 that I got a B in... this is driving me crazy! I started working on the pre-req's over 5 years ago and stopped to have 3 kids now I'm back in the game and I was so disappointed today after my HESI. The competetiveness is just crazy that a B in one class and a B on one test can pretty much take me out of the running. I'm going to keep my hopes up, but I'd sure like to hear if anyone else is applying and what yall's scores are :wink2:

Hi :)

I am starting at Kingwood, prayerfully, starting next Monday. Honestly from what I have seen, Montgomery is very competitive... all the campuses are competitive but to get in Montgomery these past few semesters, I believe the cut of was 11.4, maybe higher... I don't want to discourage you, I just wanted to give you those facts up front. You may want to put North Harris as your #1 choice, their cut off has been 11.1 or a little higher I believe these past few semesters. I retook my A&P and Intro to Psych to increase my chances of getting into Kingwood to apply and was successful so if you don't get it, it can be done. I applied with a 11.7448 and got ito Kingwood on my first try. Good luck either way with whatever choice you make. :wink2:

Thanks and yes I know Montgomery is more competetive and after i saw my score today I was trying to decide if it mattered to put north harris as my #1... i know it all goes into a pool. i'd certainly be happy with north harris i live centrally to both and if i don't get in this time I'll probably try kingwood in the spring, but i don't want to think that far ahead yet lol :)

Wow.

I graduated from Tomball College in 2003. I have to admit that I still needed 3 pre req classes when I was accepted, and had a gpa of 2.9 . It must have gotten a lot more competative since I was accepted in 2001. And I was accepted in the first round.,

Keep in mind, that if you get a letter that you're an alternate,, there are ALWAYS students that drop out just before classes start, or a day or two AFTER classes start,, just make sure your phone number is correct with the nursing office. I stress this very strongly. They will CALL you and ask you right then and there to make a decision.

GOod luck to you all... and I recommend Lone Star College for ADN,, the instructors in general are good, and they work to help you be a good nurse.. they DO NOT try to fail you out.

Hey - I'm about to start my fourth and final semester at LSC-NH. The way it works is that everyone that applies to all LSC colleges is put in point order...from highest to lowest. Then, they just start going down the list. When they get to your name, if there are still spots available at your first choice, then that's where you get accepted to, if not, then they go to your second, third, etc. That's what the counselor told me a couple of years ago when I applied. I got accepted to NH with an 11.1.

IF I'm not mistaken, being a CNA gives you an advantage by adding a few points. Thats how I managed to slip by with my crap-gpa. lol

That is not the case, anymore, regarding the CNA stuff. I just graduated from Cy Fair in December, and when I applied for Spring of 2007, my points were an 11.448. If you have the time, effort and money, you might want to make sure you have A's in the three pre req classes.

Good Luck!

so u got accepted almost 2 years ago right? well that gives me some hope :) how has the program been? do u feel like you'll be prepared when you start work? what hospitals does nh send you to for clinicals? maybe w/ the economy down not as many people had money to go to school and there won't be as many people applying this year lol a girl can hope right? sorry so many questions... my sister graduated from san jac which is supposed to be a high standard school and she said she felt like there was a lot that she didn't feel prepared for, but that was partly b/c of the hospital she worked at too. thanks!

In addition clinicals are done at St. Lukes the Woodlands, Hermann woodlands and LBJ. The hospital choices depend on which college in the system you attend.

I'm applying to Lonestar colleges too. I applied last fall but didn't get accepted (was still in my second A&P class) I'm probably going to apply to all of them with Montgomery as my first choice cause it's closer. I am also applying to BSN programs too and will see if and where I get accepted. Does anyone know if I need to retake my Hesi or if I can use last year's application exam?

Thanks and good luck!

Good luck to you as well. what do ur points look like? u can use the hesi scores from last year they don't expire. that's what the website says anyway :) do u have your other pre-req's to apply to bsn programs? i thought u had to have ur chemistry, nutrition, and a couple others before applying to them. where are u going to apply for bsn? i looked at twu, but like i said i'd have to finish a lot more pre-req's first.
