Texas Nursing: Moving from upstate NY

Hello all.

I just wanted to get some of your thoughts regarding practicing as an RN in Texas, particularly in Houston Methodist MC. I am a currently practicing RN with over 6 years of MS experience in the field of orthopedics/neurology (stepdown) unit who recently got an offer to work at an orthopedic unit in HMMC, with the usual sign up and moving bonus. Is HMMC a good institution? Career advancement? Pay? Work hours? Unionized? Any information regarding the hospital (and Texas in general) would be really helpful. I'm still deciding if I am to accept the position...

Thanks!

Most of those I can't find answers to except this one: You will not find unions in Texas.

Its the #1 hospital in Houston.

And Houston is amazing that is where I plan on moving.

Correction:

#1 Hospital in Texas, not just Houston, per US News.

Also, please note, it's not "medical center" it's "the Texas Medical Center" commonly known as "TMC". Here's some general information about the Texas Medical Center http://www.tmc.edu/about-tmc/facts-and-figures/

Care in Houston is above any place else, dont be surprised by those comments on your northeast accent ,lol. They seem to use many LPNs as fillers. They are very proud of their state, driving is devil may care ,many pick up trucks just crossing 3 lanes out of a parking lot.
