Texas Lutheran University (TLU) - ABSN

Has anyone applied or heard of the TLU ABSN program in New Braunfels, TX? Does anyone know the reputation/ competitiveness of the school? Thanks in advance.

@Pinkfairywrld , @ghost2820 Did you end up starting the program ? I have applied for the fall 2024 ABSN and I am trying to find some more info about the school

I just finished my first semester in this program. I really like the professors and the general structure. A few things to note:

This  is a completely in person program and they are strict on attendance. For J1, we had class 2 days a week and lab 2 days a week (all Monday-Thursday). The current schedule at the school for all semesters is based on Mon-thurs unless you are scheduled for clinical on a different day. I've heard from the other semester students that second and third semester are brutal so maybe ask me again in a few months.

The clinical coordinator doesn't seem to be that great and each cohort has had some issues with clinical schedules. I hear this is an issue with every nursing school, but seems this one hasn't gotten the kinks out yet.

I would not plan on working during the program. Some students who have tried to work end up failing a class and needing to repeat a semester (a very costly repeat!)

overall I would recommend the program so far.

Thanks so much for the information! Do you feel that the grading is fair so far ? Is it challenging to get high marks ?

I am at the Houston location. The first class from this location graduating in January and all passed the NCLEX first try. The next class just graduated so it will be interesting to see if they also all passed.

I was able to get all A's first semester. Most did well and nobody from my cohort failed a class though a few just barely passed. I think there's a lot of factors with that- a few tried to work part-time, others had older pre-req classes or didn't have a strong science background. That being said, we've heard 2nd and 3rd are harder so maintaining all A's may become more challenging
