Hi all my LPNs out there. I wanted to share some information as well as get your input. I eventually want to relocate to Houston after I graduate from my LPN school, I live in Michigan. I wanted to ask you guys are you having any luck finding employment as a LPN and where are you looking. I registered for this site called SimplyHired and they send me job updates every week. I wanted to know if anyone has applied at the places I'm going to paste and if so, do these places hire often. I hope this information helps someone!!!

Your results might improve substantially if you were to use the 'LVN' title when conducting job searches because we're referred to as licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) in Texas, not LPNs.
As long as you do not have your heart set on working in an acute care hospital and are not too picky, you should be to find work in Houston. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the response. I just put in Houston Texas as one of my choices and those were the results they send me weekly. I'm not picky at all, will be glad to at least get a job until I can get my BSN.

I've applied to most of those and have not heard anything yet!

It's a bit difficult to find something right away, I am based in San Antonio and it was a long process. You are in luck to be in Houston, it is a much larger city! I say apply to home health agencies they love new nurses.... just as you have 6 months under your belt. A lot of them have orientations to refresh your memory along with a test to make sure you have it down.
Good luck!

I strongly suggest that you get your Tx license as quickly as possible. Employers are unlikely to take you seriously if they don't think you're "good to go" because there are so many applicants to choose from. I hope you like Houston. Even though I wouldn't want to live any where else, I am the first to admit that it's certainly not everyone's cup of tea.
Best wishes on your job search.
