I am originally from California and moved to Texas more than five years ago. While I would like to relocate back to CA, I cannot do so because of the bleak nursing job market there. Basically, I've got to stay in Texas if I want to remain employed as a nurse and amass some experience.
To the original poster: I wouldn't return to CA unless you have a definite job offer in your hands. As an inexperienced new grad, you might be unemployed for months or years.
You can obtain an initial Texas license by examination and then get a California license by endorsement, or you can obtain an initial California license by examination.
I moved to California from Texas as a new grad. Please do not do this. Get your work experience, then have a job or jobs lined up before you move this way. I am stuck in CA now, so i apply to jobs and call and wait. I would have 7 months RN experience if i would have stayed in Texas, instead i have extra CNA/caregiving experience.
hey I just want to add my personal experience to the comment about relocation, I decided to relocate in Maryland from Texas 3months ago, I never got a job offer not even with the temp agencies. I stay in Maryland for 3months without a job. Now I'm back in Texas and now trying to work with temp agency since I resigned from my last job. So if you want to move back, do you homework first.

What's up folks... I'm back on allnurses after two years, when my initial post was asking a question about starting nursing school. Many brutal hours of studying and hundreds of test questions later I am glad to say I will be graduating next week.
I have been in San Antonio Texas for this time and attended the SAC nursing program. I have one more question: If I successfully pass the NCLEX, what must I do to obtain licensure in California (my home state)?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Antonio
