Tests don't match lecture, notes or review

I think that it is just the teacher. Last semester I had one great chem teacher and one anatomy teacher like the one you are describing. Now for mico I have a very unclandestine teacher who reveals everything.

like my ma said when I was going through that: at least you are learning how to deal with the situation so you know what to do if it happens in nrsing school

i need a few opinions on this topic. i am taking a few of the pre-reqs this summer and they are really getting on my nerves. i've taken two tests in both classes and both times in each class...the test doesn't match the lecture, review questions or notes. what is going on here?

though no one has said, it's affecting scores and morale. there are only two weeks left.

is this how nursing school is?

i've been through an undergrad and grad program and this hasn't ever happened.

sounds like my a&p1 teacher's method....a bunch of people dropped his class.

he'd pull stuff out of chapters other than what we covered etc. and then had testquestions about it. some teachers don't like to update their tests every time a textbook change occurs (my teachers notes were so old, the paper was yellow and typed on a typwriter

at this point, i don't know what do do. i assume to read and memorize everything in the chapter rather he says it's important or not. this is complete nonsense.

i can't begin to understand where he got these test questions. it is the craziest mess i've seen in the realm of education. it's frustrating to say the least. he's a new teacher (an md) and says he doesn't want to get a rep of being an easy teacher. what a fool!!!:uhoh21:

i feel your pain. just study everything in the chapters. that's really all you can do and then do your very best on the tests. have a one on one conference with him, tell him that your grade is important to you in this class, tell him exactly what it is that you are struggling with.

as a last resort you can always withdraw from the course, but stick it out ti'll the last day that you can withdraw to get the most out of it....i've done so one time during my pre-reques. even though it sucks, sometimes it is the only way.

I have had some really bad ones. A couple of semesters ago I had a real awful chemistry instructor. The class was an hour, and a half twice a week. He would come in and spend half an hour shuffling papers, and taking roll. He NEVER came prepared for class, and didn't seem to have a clue where to start or what to say. He would talk 3 minutes about something related to chemistry, and then go off talking about something unrelated in his life, mumble randomly under his breath, seem confused, and then shuffle papers for anouther 10 minutes. The class would tell him we were confused, and didn't know where he was, and he would get angry and yell at us. The tests were unrelated to what little he did say in class, and some of the questions did NOT even have a correct answer listed as a possible choice. Over half of the students dropped pretty quick, and the rest of us complained to the dean. Finally after the dean sit in on a few classes those of us that were left were allowed to transfer out to other instructors. I think he might have had the beginning of Alzheimer's, and didn't realize it yet, or maybe was denying the reality of his situation.

i feel your pain. i had an a&p 2 teacher like this. he used notes from another text book, but then tested us with the tests provided in the book that we had for the class (but not the one that the notes were from). we were so confused... notes did not follow chapters, things did not match - which to follow, notes or book. on top of it, he did not speak english. so for one class he spoke about the "walves of the heart" and about 45 min. into this lecture i asked "are you saying valves or walls?" and he starts yelling, "walves, walves" and then writes valves on the board - as if i am the one with the hearing problem. a whole bunch of people in class were like "ohhhh" once he wrote it on the board....

the advice that i got, and that got me through that was that there are good teachers and bad ones, get the bad ones out of the way early, then all will be smooth sailing... i know, it is not reality... but it helped. or every superhero needs a nemesis, and he was mine.....

i'd go to the head of the dept. with my notes and tests in hand, and let him/her know what's going on. if a majority of the classes' grades are suffering because of it, the teacher will likely be talked to about it. i'd also let them know that he said he's doing it because he didn't want to get a reputation for being easy.

wait, you have a md for a teacher for anatomy?

mmmmmmmmm....something is very wrong with that picture. did he happen to mention why?????
