test taking strategies

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

any other people passed with just one form of study material? all i used was saunders cd, didn't even read the book. used it for hesi and passed both the first time. i did about an hours worth of studying per day for 2 weeks. what saunders has taught me was how to think critically with the questions and the answers. i ask myself these questions when i'm testing:

1: what is this question really wanting from me

2: is this a trick question

3: what are the 2 answers that i know i can eliminate

4: of the remaining 2 answers, does the longest (one with the most information) answer sound the best

5: is this an appropriate time for enie minie miny moe (j/k here)

this method has worked for me, i realize that this method won't make me a great nurse. but when a lot of people on this board are reporting that that they studied their tails off and had a bad feeling after the test... it may be due to lack of testing taking ability and not what they know. hopefully this helps someone pass nclex.

I used Kaplan, the book and online content. I thought the Kaplan questions were closer to what was seen on NCLEX than the Saunders questions. Saunders was better than Mosby though.

Thanks for the info. It is encouraging to hear that all you did was the Saunders CD b/c that is all I have been doing. I keep looking at the book but I feel that practicing the questions will be more beneficial. I got the content part form school ya know? I love tha Saunders CD. Well I test on the 12th of this month and it was great to read your post. CONGRATS on passing!!!
