Arkansas state university crna program
My interview was under the old regime. They started doing things differently once Sue left. They are struggling to fill spots because usually, it only takes 2 interview sessions (fall and spring) to fill spots. Now, they are also interviewing in July. That makes 3 sessions, and I bet they also fill more spots for 2014 with interviews in the fall, 4 sessions total. Good luck.

Getting an invite is the easy part, as they are struggling to find enough students to fill there upcoming class. Go prepared, know your stuff, having all your requirements before you go will help you. Make sure you get plenty of sleep before the interview. You will be very nervous, just take your time, answer to the best of your knowledge, and don't BS with them. Hope to see you in January.

Anyone in Arkansas think LPN is a bad idea?
save your money and go straight into an RN program. UALR can get you an ADN in 18 months if you qualify for their fast track. more and more hospitals are doing away with LPNs, more and more of them are also requiring a BSN. if you just want to stick to the LPN track, you can still find jobs at nursing homes and may be at the VA. Good luck! forgot to add: my wife was thinking about doing an LPN program, but when we did the math, what she would've paid for tuition vs what she would've ended up making as an LPN, she would've broken even if she just not gotten her LPN and stuck to her $11/hr job. new RNs make $20+/hr.

Baby and UAMS
You did not mention those that have implanted radiation, such as those with prostate cancer. If the exposure to this is minimal, then why even have the big lead shield in the room? And if you want to be pregnant and be around ACB or MRSA then go right a head. And let me add that on my unit, we do not let our pregnant nurses take care of our patients who are in isolation nor do we allow them to do any heavy lifting.

New Jersey Grad looking for Ark. job
The hospital that I work at currently has about 15 or so RN positions right now. We start new grads out with our residency program to make sure we Weed out, I mean make sure we get the right fit for both parties. The hospital, unfortunately is in LR, which is about 2 hours from Ft. Smith. My advice for you is, our jobs are not listed on Monster, Hotjobs, Craigslist, etc. They are listed on the hospital's website. You should find out which hospitals are in or near Ft. Smith, go to their website and do a job search. Best of luck to you.

Baby and UAMS
I do not know much about UAMS' program, but if you were pregnant while in school you will have to be careful with certain things. You can't be around patients who are getting radiation therapy, those with certain infections, be careful lifting, and of course be careful with stress. Nursing school is VERY stressful. We had a student who was pregnant. She made it through school ok, although she had to quit while she was out for leave and finish up the following year. Best of luck to you.

Question about UALR
You should learn how to do a proper bed bath. If you have any aspirations of working in the ICU, you should know how to do your own baths. Patients will have multiple drains and tubes that can be pulled out. Some may even decline if you touch them wrong. Critical patients should be bathed by the RN.

I was talking about the ASN program. It is somewhat competitive. In my class, 400 people applied, 200 got in. My quality points were over a 100 and I got into the accelerated class. Based on your grades, I'm guessing you have about 76 quality points. You may have to retake a math (college math or algebra) and you probably won't be able to count both american gov classes. Your spring classes may or may not count towards quality points because registration is done in jan-feb, before you finish class, but once you do finish classes, take your grades to the nursing dept ASAP! Good luck.

Where can I work...I need help please!
All I can say is good luck finding that perfect job. While you are in nursing school, you will be required to study all the time, then class, then clinicals. Baptist places the highest demand on time because they have clinicals multiple times a week and for long hours. UALR is probably the most time friendly school. I got through nursing school while working 16 hour shifts on the weekends. You cannot go through nursing school without making some sacrifices with family.

acceptance is dependent on your overall quality points. two A's is a good start, but what is your overall quality points? you'll need around 80 quality points to get in. A=4 points B=3 points C=2 points multiply that by the hours of the class gives you 16 quality points for that one class. the quality points can only be used for support classes to the RN program.
