Ok i must admit i failed nclex twice, now i was wondering if i can apply for Graduate Nurse job, bec, northwest medical center here in houston is offering a graduate nurse job this may and june. I notice the requirement is Temporary license for GN,.. where will i get that, do i have to apply for that or the ATT itself givin by B.O.N is ok to show them to prove that i have a permit to test?( or the Diploma or Transcript is good enough as requirement).. i'll be taking my nclex by april by the way. I just wanted a job right away even if i don't pass my 3rd one (hopefull i'll pass it lol)!. even they demote me to c.n.a it's o.k for me, i just don't understand the requirement they are asking.

I'm sorry, but you don't qualify for a GN position.
Some states allow new grads to practice in a professional capacity while they await their test date and NCLEX results. This is becaue it is presumed that a candidate will pass NCLEX. States that allow GNs to practice require the GN to stop practicing nursing immediately and inform their employer if the receive a failure notice. Their temporary practice permit and GN status are immediately revoked. They may continue to work as a patient care technician, if the hospital desires, but not in a professional nursing job.
Once you pass boards, you will be eligible for hire as an RN.
Good luck!
So you are saying that i have to take the nclex and while waiting for the result that's the time that i can apply for G.N?
Since i'll be taking my nclex again by april 20, that doesn't qualify me? (meaning i already have a testing date) let's disregard my pass failed nclex result.
Or is G.N is only for the first time graduate who haven't taken the nclex? is that what you're saying...?? thanks..
GN status is only for the fresh new grad who has not yet taken boards. GNs who pass boards become RNs. GNs who fail boards lose their GN status for good.
While you await retaking boards, you can work in a non-professional capacity, such as a PCT, but not as a GN.
Or you can wait until you pass boards and seek an RN job.
Good luck.
can't you not reapply if you fail?? and i'm new..what is PCT? can you work on hospital or clinic?thanks
oh i know PCT's now..hehe.. it's CNA..right..lol
No, you can't reapply for GN status. Once you lose it by failing boards the first time, it is gone forever.
AS for working as a CNA, you can do that if you have CNA certification. Graduating nursing school does not make you a CNA. Taking a CNA class and passing a state exam are required. If you have done that, then you can work as a CNA. If not, some hospitals will hire you as a PCT, or patient care technician. It is a job that does not require certification or licensure by the State.
oh i thought they where the same, i was a c.n.a 4 yrs ago, well it expire already coz i have to go to nursing school and i didn't continue working as c.n.a. i can renew it but i have to take the clinical test again. So what basically is the job of Patient care technician that differs as a c.n.a? i'm learning so much from u..thanks!

check out the scope of practice of a cna vs. a non-licensed technician for your state. in some states, pct can not do vitals or even clean patients. the only thing they can do is watch them and keep them from falling out of a bed or pulling at tubes. it is not a bad job if you are humble and won't step out of your scope of practice.... in fact, it is a great job for nursing students because it gives them time to study.... thus, it might be ideal for you too.

PCT is some states require a CNA and further because some states allow PCT aka Nurse Techs to insert and dc foleys, dc iv's, vs, and do accuchecks as well as patient care.
