  3. somehow, i remember seeing the port 2 nights ago and it says 16 fr 5 cc...then i remember this morning i put in 30cc! im so anxious... im a new grad and that was my first time to insert a foley in a long time.i actually sought help from a more experienced nurse and she told me to go ahead and put in all 30cc. ugh. will, aspirate necesary amount tonight. i hope nothing really bad happens to that patient.
  4. omg... ok... i'll aspirate 20cc right? so that 10cc will be left for the balloon?
  5. i put in 30 cc of water to a 16 fr 5cc cath...yep.. i did.. so now, what should i do? its been 6 days since i inserted the catheter and its been draining well. no adverses reactions noted or whatsoever. i just realized it now.. should i reinsert a new catheter or should i just get a sterile syringe and aspirate 20-25 cc of water from the catheter that way 5-10 cc of water will be left for the balloon???im anxious....i hope nothing bad happens to the patient. il go back to work tonight and clean up my mess. help!!
  6. i know that this has been an old post. however, i just wanna thank this thread and all the authors. i am currently having difficulties dealing with the cna's in my facility. i am a new nurse and a BSn at that. i am an international graduate thus the machines and the protocols they have here in the US are very different with the ones i had back home. so of course i would sometimes be fidgety and unsure...also, its been 2 years since i was in the floor..and to top it all off,i only had two days of orientation. i finally cried last night... my tenth day of working... they are just being too difficult., the cna's i mean. its true that if they see you're young and nice, they will tend to step all over you. but i will stand my ground. i will not try for them to like me. i am for my patient's safety. i will do my job... some cna's are nice but i have no time for those nonsense insecurities and bitterness from old,air-headed cna's. just venting. thanks y'all.
  7. well, this thread is more than a month old so im wondering, how are you holding on your ltc job? i just had my 3rd day of orientation and they already gave me one entire hall to work with.. one hall with 15-20 patients. you're lucky you got 10 days orientation. im a new nurse too and international at that so im not familiar with the meds and machines and protocol and then they throw me into the dungeon. but my advice to myself and to everybody, dont let one mistake or a couple of negative people let you down. **** 'em (excuse my language)... do your job... try to grasp as much information as you could and everything will be fine. its gonna be awesome!!!
  8. MAGsulfate and Daytonite... they're awesome... they're willing to help and insightful. :)
  9. TO everybody: i thank you so much for giving me hope and supporting me in this thread.. i'm super glad to tell you that i finally ended up in a job in a long term care facility. it is not ideal.. i know.. il be handling 16-32 patients, for 25 dollars per hour. i think its not that bad since its so near my area (like 14 minutes) and also soo close to my husband's work which means he can drop me off and pick me up (i dont have a car yet, will get soon). again, thank you thank you so much for your help. best regards and good luck to everybody! :)
  10. To Beachbum: I'm glad you found a job.. You made me more hopeful since you did it despite the long time that you were inactive. I really appreciate your suggestion. thanks. To Peachpie: Thanks for the enlightenment. I barely started driving so at first i kind of shy away from the idea of driving far, but now that i'm in this situation, i guess i can always practice more on the road. so yeah, i'm starting to look for jobs in the woodlands and sugarland... i've submitted resume on kingwood hospitals too. i'm so thankful for all your replies. i'm hoping to hear more from y'all. :redbeathe regards, a.nurse.soon
  11. MAGsulfate, I've read your message and I sent my reply too. thank you so much for hearing me out and taking time to help. I appreciate it so much. regards, a.nurse.soon
  12. thank you for that artist-rn... its true..i've gone too far to give up now. something will come up...i know..i hope..
  13. thanks wendy.. i am not able to relocate... for now, thats not gonna be a priority option. i do have an interview for a pediatric home health nursing by friday. i am keeping my hopes high. i know it is not ideal for a newly licensed nurse like me to get into home health but i know i am great and i know i can handle the challenges it is gonna bring. i am putting my best foot forward. it meant a lot when you said not to linger in the past... thank you thank you...your words meant a lot.:redbeathe is there anybody out there who were once or still in the same boat as i am?
  14. Hello to everybody. I get it. there is a scarcity of jobs for new graduates. and i think i have that bad luck right now... but mine i guess is worst than what the others have. I graduated in the Philippines last March 2007. That's right. 2 years ago. Before you throw me a lot of questions what i did next after my graduation, let me go ahead and tell you. As soon as i graduated, i reviewed for the Philippine board exam and passed it by june 2007. i had my license december 2007...my visa arrived February 2008 so i arrived here in the US April 2008. Unfortunately, it took awhile for me to get everything ready for me to apply for nclex. I finally got my license last month. April 07, 2009. and since that time, i have been applying all iver houston area and could not find a job. i'm losing hope. now my question is, how do i go about this unemployment? i'm pretty sure my being inactive for 2 years is big turn-off to employers. so what do i do now? i cant bring back the past and either way, i couldnt have it changed. i am currently unemployed and just thinking of throwing my BSN degree in the trash and do something else but i know i'm better than that. I'm taking trainings right now since my shot for graduate nurse positions seemed impossible now that May graduates are here. so, how? what should i do? iv tried everything from hospital to ltc to nursing homes..nothing.what should i do to make up for the lost time? i am so wrecked...
  15. no. unfortunately, i am not willing to relocate. there are a lot of recruiters calling about new grad positions away from my area. so for those who are willing to relocate, go online and sign up for those career sites. its gonna help. for those who cant relocate, well, i guess its gonna take a little difficult.
