Temple Jr College LVN 2012-Anyone else waiting on their letter??

Published

I am anxiously awaiting to hear from the LVN Dept. to see if I got in or not! Anyone else? I hate having to wait so long, haha. I just wanted to introduce myself and wish everyone else luck! I am crossing my fingers and hope that we all get in. My name is Amanda, and I am hoping to get in the LVN program, and then bridge to a BSN program soon after that. :nurse:

Thanks!

I suppose now I'll wait awhile before checking my mailbox everyday :p

As soon as that letter arrives im going to get my BLS certificate and a check up...woohoo.

Haha!! Same here! I've already started my hep b series, I have to get my 2nd shot today.. Ugh!

I figured I'd wait till I got my letter. I'm about 99.9% sure im getting one but still, wanted to wait. I still have to get the meningitis shot also.

But I figure I'd go register at S&W for one of their BLS certificate classes and get that over with so I have the rest of the time to do medical stuff.

I know waiting on our letters seems like forever...but the fact that we still have to wait till June, that sucks even more lol.

Oh yeah and Amanda...I think you think I'm a girl, so maybe i should have said my name is Dan instead :p lol Hopefully I'm not the only dude in the class...just sayin :/

Oops!! I totally thought you typed Danielle!! HA! Im sorry! You won't be the only guy. One of my male classmates applied for LVN too. So at least that is one other guy! Ha.

It does suck the we have to wait until June to start, but it's ok with me. I am taking four classes right now to go toward my BSN later on. That should keep me occupied until June!

Waiting, waiting waiting... do we know how many applied?

I wish we knew! I also wish we knew the grades of everyone who applied! I just want to know where I stand! Hehe

I have no clue how many applied, I think last year there was like 50 something people accepted soooo, we shall see.

@kenziesmama - No worries, I got a laugh out of it :p. As for the LVN to BSN bridge, where are you going to do that and how long is it?

Well I'm glad I gave you a good laugh! Haha. I don't really know exactly which program I am going to do. I have looked into a few, and one that I have heard good things about is the UTA program. They have a fast track where you can take just the nursing courses and do the clinicals at your job. So I am going to take all of my basic classes at temple (because it is sooooo much cheaper). I think once we get into the LVN, we can get some good advice from others that are taking that route as well.

I may have to look into that.

One thing I was looking into is doing the LVN through TC. Once done with that I was planning on doing the LVN to ADN bridge at TC as well. For me that will probably be the hardest part.

Once I get my ADN though, UMHB has a 2 semester (24 credit hours) program to get your BSN. Most of it is online as well so to me thats not to bad. Either way I'm just ready to get started and move on to the next step.

Yeah, I am so ready to be a Nurse already. I really wanted to do the RN program, but I just can't afford to go that route! I figure LVN is one yr, I will start work, then if I get a job with S&W, they will pay for my school! I haven't really looked into UMHB... It's just so expensive, but if work will pay for it, then why not? I may have to look into that.

I'm in the same situation, I can only afford to be in school without a full time job for about a year so that's why i'm doing LVN.

I will say this much though. 1, be careful about letting S&W pay for your schooling. I don't know from experience or anything but I've heard a lot about "fine print" issues when it comes to them paying for your schooling. So yeah, make sure you know everything about it before you do it.

If you don't do it I would say no biggie. If you get your ADN through TC, it's really not that expensive, plus you'll come out as an RN probably starting off around $21 plus an hour. Save up a little, pay back some loans if any and then when you feel ready, go to UMHB or any other place, (there all gonna be somewhat expensive) that has an ADN to BSN fast track, you could even do it part time online or something while working as an RN so you don't have to pay so much at once, and before you know it you'll have your BSN.

For me, I'd rather get all the schooling done asap no matter the cost and pay back my loans on a payment plan after getting good RN pay.

It's times like this that make me wish I was already there :)

Oh wow, thanks for that info about S&W. I will definitely do some research. I am also still thinking about doing the bridge at Temple too. I think we have plenty of time to decide what our next step will be. I know what ya mean about wishing we were already done, and we've only just begun. Let the good times roll!! Haha
