Hello I just wanted to see if there are any people on the site who are planning on applying to the ADN or LVN program at Temple College for 2011??? If so I just wanted us to all have a place to talk and ask questions about the Hesi, application process and whatever else.
I've applied to the Temple ADN program and am also anxiously awaiting that letter. Don't know what my chances are exactly. My feeling is that I'm a close call. 95.26 on the HESI. A's in AP I & II, Intro to Psychology, unfortunately a B in my composition course (which is funny because I have a B.A. Magna Cum Laude in English and received straight A's in all my other Lit. and writing courses but THAT one, which I took 20 years ago, I got a B in!). Still wondering why I took that that stupid Computer class for healthcare professionals. Looks like they dropped it as a pre-req.
Well, good luck to all. Hope you get in Angel.
Thanks Sean! I hope you get in as well! :) I haven't taken my lit class yet, but I do plan to. If I get into the ADN program, then I definitely want to go all the way for my M.S.N.....any recommendations on a good lit class? I took the computer class too. I guess it will just count as another elective for us now. :)
Shakespeare. There's a world of difference between spending a few days on Romeo and Juliet in high school and spending three months studying his greatest plays with someone who knows and loves the material. And Romeo and Juliet is one of Shakespeare's lesser plays (and boring too).
I too want to get the MSN. My wife (an RN) told me that I should be able to get it within a year after getting my ADN. Letters go out on the 26th, I believe. Do you know anything about how competitive it is this year? My neighbor is just about to finish up her ADN at Temple and she told me I have nothing to worry about. But I'm worried. I live in Taylor so I lose a point for being out of district. I wonder how many apps they got this year.
It's nice that y'all are both in the same profession. My husband is in the healthcare field as well. He is thinking about switching to nursing. If he does, then he wants to apply for next years program.
As far as the competition goes, the ADN staff just told me the basics. They said they get 200-300 applicants per year and accept 35-50 applicants. A 3.6 or higher is generally necessary and you need to have a high HESI score. Any "C" grades are a cause for concern.
I was told not to worry as well, however, I think that not worrying is nearly impossible. There are a lot of very intelligent people out there that are applying. I wish we could all get in, but unfortunately, I know that is not the case.
So, lets just cross our fingers and hope for the best! :)
Well, assuming Temple meets its target date, acceptance letters start going outs in two days. Wouldn't it be nice to get an early surprise? I was just reading some other comments from Temple students and was somewhat irritated to learn that Temple accepts--doesn't require but accepts--letters of recommendation. Did you know this?
I was hoping they would come early too. So far, no luck. I think last year, the students got their letters around the 22nd of May. I guess ours will just be later.
I was unaware that we could attach references either. If I would have know that, I would have attached some. I wonder if they take the references into consideration or if they go solely off the point system. Where did you hear about the reference letters?

Posts on this website. A couple of people said they attached them to their apps. Hey, when I got my HESI report/eval, it said that the average composite score was 81. I took the HESI the second to last day I could take it, so I assume that score reflected all exam takers up to that point. What was the average score you saw on your report?
I also took my HESI towards the end of the time frame. My overall composite score was a 96. I think they just averaged the grades. I don't think it's ranked in relation to how you did among other testers. First, add together your overall reading comprehension score, vocabulary & general knowledge score, and math score. Divide that total by 3, and that number should be the same as your cumulative score.
Hope this helps....
