Tell me about CCRI clinicals...

I found out last week that I have been accepted into the Newport day program starting in January 09. I've finished up all pre-reqs and need to only focus on the clinical portion. Is there anyone out there that has been through the program or in the process that can tell me what to expect? Is it mostly work in nursing homes for NUR I? I've heard different things, is it lecture two days a week, clinical rotations two days a week? Whats the schedule like? Hope some of you experienced CCRI students/graduates can help - Thanks!:wink2:

Just wanted to congratulate you! I am in the BSN program at RIC and really liking it so far. Good luck!

Thanks RhodyGirl-SN! I was planning to apply to RIC (RIC alum class of 92) for the accelerated BSN program, RIC is a great school. However, I am close to the Newport campus and really happy that I was accepted into the program at CCRI.

sunnsand-

Just a question for you. I have a friend who is in her first semester at CCRI and has just decided she wants to try for nursing. I made an entire plan of study for her (which courses to take, when to take them, what grades to get at minimum, etc). However, she is not a strong student and I don't think she realizes how competitive nursing programs are today. Would you mind telling me how you applied (waitlst? performance based?) and the GPA you were accepted with?? Also, how long you were waiting, if so? You can PM me if you want, or feel free not to answer specifics if you don't feel comfortable. I just want to give her an example of a successful student for the ADN program, and make sure she knows what she has to do. I've tried explaining to her that it is very difficult to get into any program right now, but I don't think she is really listening. Thanks for any help you can offer!:nurse:

RhodyGirl, here it goes - I applied for the Spring 2009 day program back in Feb. of 08, February is the only time of year that applications are accepted for the ADN program. My acceptance was performance based (gpa 4.0), as you know CCRI is in the process of doing away with the wait-list, by January 2010 all admissions will be 100% performance based. Like you said, it is competitive to get into a nursing program. Each CCRI campus is only allowed to admit so many students each semester, I know Newport only admitted in 40 for Jan 09. Tell your friend that the better grades she gets in her pre-reqs the easier it will be to get into the program, and if it is something she really wants she will definitely be motivated to excel. Hope this helps!

Congratulations!!! I feel the same as you, excited but nervous. Have you received your official acceptance letter in the mail or heard anything about orientation yet? When I got the call about being accepted into the program I was told that the orientation would be in November. Other than buying all those books (yikes!), I need to submit my immunizations and get CPR certified, which I am doing next month.

I haven't received anything yet. I actually called last week because I was supposed to start last year but I was pregnant so they said I could delay until this session. So I called Deborah Watson and she said all was good and I could register! I told her to give me a couple days to think about it though. I guess once you accpet a spot, there is no turning back, so I just want to make sure I can do this! I will need to quit my full time job to go through the program so it's a huge decison! With a house and two kids my husband and I really have to crunch the numbers but I know that in the long run two really crappy years really won't seem too bad. Knowing that I will have job security in this time will be a great relief! I'm looking into taking a CNA class so that I can at least work part time. How much are the books? I hear that the first semester is like 2400 with books and uniforms and everything! Crazy! Definetely will be taking out a loan.

I don't go to CCRI but just wanted to add in my :twocents:.....my books for the 1st semester of the program were $750. They gave us a long list of things we need for next semester, not including books. Can't wait to see what that bill is! I put aside $600 for uniforms, stethoscope, etc, but I have a feeling I will need to dip into the savings.

Good luck for those of you starting in January! I'm so excited to be almost in semester #2!
