telemetry floors and staffing

Published

Hi all,

Just wondering what your staffing is like. Are your head nurses in staffing? If so how many patients do they take? Does your telemtry unit have another type of continuous hard wired unit within it?? More for higher NTG drips, for example. We have 1 or 2 additional rooms that hold up to 4 patients within our telemtry units that are used for continuous pulse ox monitoring or more frequent glucoscans. How is that area staffed??

I have been a nurse for 16 years our hospital is in the process of creating a stepdown unit i have a meeting with the manager of this unit on tuesday sept7 because of the staffing they want to give us. If anyone can answer these questions pls help.

1. what is the nurse staff ratio

2. what is the aide staff ratio

3. how many beds does your unit have

4. do you use full time secretaries or monitor techs

5. what state are you from

6. do you monitor continous drips

thank you

Help y'all,

I have not had any cardiac experience, and keep getting stumped on the

cardiac questions in my review for NCLEX. :uhoh3:

My question to you is:

Is there a way to remember the positions for the 12 leads in an ECG ?

I worked on acute med/surg telemetry unit as a charge nurse. Our ratio on days was 5:1 on days and 7:1 on nights. I occasionally took a patient when there wasn't enough staff and we'd get an admission. That was very occasionaly and I would take over the care of a patient located very close to the desk.

Chloe....You may want to pick up a book called EKG for dummies. No, I am not calling you that..lol..Its a real book, I picked one up a few years ago to refresh.
