Telemetry before ER

Hi,

I did a preceptorship in the ED and LOVED IT. But they weren't hiring new grads in any local ED, so I have an offer on telemetry. Is this a good place to start and then move to ED?

Yes, it is....:D

This is the same thing I was told. I worked tele for a little over a year before I was itching to head to the ER. Though I'm overwhelmed by the variety I'm now experiencing in the ER . . . having the cardiac background, critical thinking skills, and know-how of juggling multiple patients on a fast-paced step-down unit has been super beneficial. I'm loving the ER and am happy to have tele in my background, esp when the CP's, arrythmia's, etc come in ... I know what to do. Good luck!

It is great idea.

I don't think you'll many who would say it's a bad idea...go for it!

One of my friends/coworker is doing exactly that.... Same situation as you. We are about 8 moths into our tele job and she says she's still not quite ready to leave yet, but will be pretty soon. I'd say 95% of the time, I love working tele!! It is a great base for any specialty :)

I think tele is the best place to start. You get the organizational skills and build basics skills while working on a floor. You also learn the aryythmias. I think tele is a great foundation for the ER, and many other places.
