Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Hello everyone!!! Anyone attending TECO (KISSIMMEE, FL) LPN Program starting Jan 2011? I can't wait. Sooo excited. I hear it is a great school. Good luck to everyone starting LPN soon. :stdnrsrck:

Thank you so much for the information :)

ValDonovan, I'm new to this site and have been reading some of your posts. If I recall correctly, you stated you graduated HS in 1987. So did I and college in 1992. That said, it has been quite some time since I've been a student and I'm a little nervous about the work load and managing life (husb, kids, 1 hour commute to school, etc). Any thoughts, suggestions etc. ?

PS-I have applied to TECO and have an intv scheduled for May. Hoping and praying I do well & get accepted.

Thanks.

Being nervous about being a student after so long is totally understandable!! You can do it if you have a good support system in place to help you. My hubby has stepped up and taken of the "Mom" job in addition to his own so that I could really concentrate on school.

It will take a litle while to adjust to having to sit and do homework and study again but it can be done. I feel like I am a much better student then I was 20+ years ago. I am much more mature and have a better understanding of how much work it takes to be successful. Plus we "more mature" students tend to have a lot less drama in our lives than some of the younger students. :)

Where are you commuting from?? That is a pretty long trip. We do have one girl in our class that is commuting from Ocoee and she drives about 45 minutes each way.

Some students use study groups to help them prepare for tests. But that totally depends on what type of learner you are. I meet with a couple of classmates at the local McD's at 5 in the morning on test days to study and review for the test. That is in addition to studying at home the night before.

Some students prefer to study alone, others use flash cards, and some read the lecture notes into a recorder and play them back to help them study.

In the begining it might take a while to figure out what works best for you. But once you get into the groove of being a "student" it will relieve some of the stress.

How familiar are you wtih the program, hours, etc??

Do you have a medical background at all?? Sometimes that helps a little.

Congrats on your interview!!! Please feel free to contact me any time if I can answer any questions or help out in any way.

My email is [email protected]

Best of luck!!!

Val

Hi ValDonovan,

Thanks for the reply. I sent you an email from "[email protected].

@ Enid: hi! Have you took the TABE and teas test yet? I failed the applied math portion Sooo I am doing the remedial class on it.

Anyway, are you planning to go for the august class?

Anyone..... I need an advice on how to take the TEAS test and pass it @ TECO Please! I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi gerry0603,

I took the TEAS at Orlando Tech and here's what I did. I studied from both the ATI TEAS Pre-Test study guide and the McGraw Hill Nursing School Entrance Exams book. I read each book from cover to cover. Took every practice exam in the books & on-line for ATI. I made flash cards of the areas that were challenging for me and studied those during my down times(i.e. walking on the treadmill, passenger in the car, etc). I found the McGraw Hill easier to understand & study from. HTH !

I bought the ATI book as well and used it as a study guide to see where my weakness were.

Best of luck.

Val

Thanks for all the replies! I'll retake the TABE test on Monday and hope that I'll finally pass it! I'm really eager to get accepted on the august class!

Wishing you the best of luck!!! Please keep us posted!!

Please let me know if I can help!!!

Anyone know much about the evening LPN program at TECO? Anyone attended the evening program at TECO? I just want to some general information about the courses, clinical and advice. I work in the day and is considering the evening program. Thanks :)
