TEAS VI - failed :(

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

hello everyone,

well i took TEAS VI today and scored 61% I'm so sad and disappointed. I have been studying the ATI study manual 6th edition and the mometrix secrets 6th edition as well. I also took practice test on ATI website both A and B and scored in the 70s on both tests. now I'm not sure if those practice tests are any good.

I'm on a remediation self study time for one year. can anyone here help me with tips and more useful study guides? please someone help. I have been crying all day. now i have to wait one more year to re take the test and to start the program. please help. am i the only person who has failed the TEAS their first attempt?

My weak areas were reading and math but I bought the study guide as well as the practice exams from ati and the actual test was nothing like it.

Thats is why I'm so upset

FWIW, I called ATI this past spring & the person I spoke to stated he only differences between v5 version & v6 was the A&P section. I haven't taken the c6 version so I'll take the ATI person at their word

I found the opposite to be true. I found the science section to be harder on the exam than on the practice tests. I'm sure they must change things up though. Someone told me there was a lot about the heart on the TEAS and when I took it, there was one question.

First of all the ATI study Manuel does absolutely nothing to truly prepare you, unless you are fresh out of your pre-req classes. The Mometrix was awesome about details, but what really helped me was utilizing my anatomy books and quizlet. Quizlet allows you to open other people's flashcards whom are also taking the teas test. There are great online random practices tests as well. Simply Google them. You may have to get creative to find the most resources to help prepare you as never assume that 1 or 2 are enough based on other people. Everyone learns differently. Doing the practice tests over and over helped me become comfortable with the structure of questions. I also timed myself to not stress out about finishing on the day Iof the test.

What makes the TEAS difficult is that it is not cut and dry answers. Two or even three maybe right but you need to find the BEST answer especially in math and English.

Some other helpful things that I found useful is between each section, pause and stretch. Clear your head and breathe before continuing on. I have pretty bad anxiety and fidget due to ADD and ADHD. This may sound weird but I brought a tiny ball made of thread that I fidget with in my non dominant hand. While I'm reading and concentrating I fidget with it and it literally helps ease the stress. All my energy is being used by the ball of thread and I don't get nervous or anxious. It also helps me tune out distractive noise in the testing room. I took the test 2 times and the first time was horrific. I didn't pace myself and dwelled too long on the math section. I ran out of time basically not answering half of the questions. Ironically the second time around I got a 90% in math. CRAZY! But I busted my butt and got as much outside resources and methods that I could get and it made such a huge difference then trying to prepare with 1 or 2 Manuel's. Although second time around I knew what I was in for. I wish I could have still got a higher score but I got In the advanced category. Don't assume you may know a section, go over it until it's imprinted. Practice and you will do great. Stay positive!

thanks everyone for your feedbacks. Since last year I have re taken the test and have successfully passed with a great score. Thanks everyone :)

Do you know if there are any good practice exams out there? thanks

honestly the only thing that boosted my score was the smart prep by ATI. its an online module directly through ATI. Its pricy but my program paid for it. Its a good investment if you're really motivated to get a good score. I believe its around $250

I passed on my first try and i found the practice exams to be helpful. Since they gave so much time for the tests I took my time and really made sure I understood each question. I almost exclusively used the manual to study. I also would google practice english questions bc i struggled on that section on the practice tests and on the real test I did very well on english. I would just use this as a learning experience. Study up and take the exam again. Another thing I did was watch youtube videos from people who took the exam and did well. Some of the videos tell you direct questions that were on the exam. Good luck!

I was allowed to re-take the teas 13 days after not doing well on the first. After that I realized that I should never have been allowed to take it that soon. From reading the website it states that the 30 day wait is in order for the test taker to be better prepared. I did the same on the second as the first. Now my school says I can't take for a year and I'm mid nursing program. Can this score be invalidated so I can test again? Any ideas?

no the scores remain on your record under ATI. The usual remediation is 1 year to prep to re take the test. I was not allowed to re take the test until I was done with my remediation plan which was roughly 8 months later.

I can relate to your situation....

I took the teas V1 my first time & failed it....

I took it again and passed with a 69.7%

I used the excat same study guide and book and practice exams that you mentioned!

I studied and practiced for this test for about 4 months..

Highlight, make notecards, record your self I watched ALOT of YouTube videos about A&P and Math!!!! That really helped me alottttt! Goodluck
