i am taking the teas test feb.25, 2008 at ivy tech.

does anyone have any advice for me?

I retook the TEAS on Monday after failing the math part on the first attempt. I scored an overall of 82% which isnt toooo bad & a BIG jump from my first score. I did ALOT better than I thought I would. For those who havent taken it yet, there is no need to worry. The problem I had the first time is that I got too worried and stressed out and couldnt focus( I DESPISE standardized tests). If you just take deep breaths and focus entirely on what you are doing, you will do great. English and Reading portions are a breeze. As for the Math portion my advice is to just brush up on some skills such as fractions, metric conversions, and percents. There are a few problems that are like this..

Mary makes an average of $1,500 a month. For the whole year she spends 20% on gas 60% on bills and 20% on groceries how much money does she take home yearly. There are also a few problems when you have to find the "mean". The science part isnt too bad. Definately bush up on just the basics do not overwhelm youselves and study too in depth. There is only two anatomy questions dont waste precious time studying alot of anatomy.

Just take your time read the problems slowly( not too slow because its timed) you will do just fine.

Do you think the ATI people ever put poser posters on Allnurses to see what if any test info or answers are disclosed? Make me wonder.

I do know that the avg TEAS scores keeps going up each year. Are people better prepared or is there more help being offered.

I think people are taking the initiative to learn how to take this particular test (like coming to this site or using other sources). it is all about HOW to take this kind of test more than the material itself. i took it upon myself to learn more about the company and test, then I took the practice exam, then I studied the parts i wasn't comfortable with.

I never thought of that...its a good point. I agree with Vixnnet. I think more and more people are taking advantage of opportunities such as coming on here and getting advice from people who have already taken it.

I took the TEAS yesterday after studying for 2 months using various resources and my score was still disappointing---an 81. I scored 90's in English, reading, and math; the 60 something in science is what killed me. The science on the test wasn't at all like the science in the ATI guide---there was a lot of physics on my test--my weakest area. Oh well. Hope an 81 is still good enough to get into LPN school.

Dont feel bad, I got an 82% I applied to both Ivy tech LPN & RN programs.

Heather 859206---I have heard alot about this Ivy Tech school on these boards. Is it super-competitive? Is this your first time applying for NS? When do you expect to get 'the letter'? The LPN program I applied to is coming into its second year and its the first year they have used the TEAS as its entrance test. I asked what are the scores needed for admission and I was told the top 18 scores make the cut. I was told there's something like 50 people applying and even though I was told an 81 is still good, I'm very anxious to see if I get in or not. Letters don't go out till the first week of June. Gosh, I HATE waiting!

Heather 859206--I'm applying to a program ran by the county school board and Community and Adult Education. Fall 08 will be the 2nd year the program's been in existence; for that reason I hope the competition isn't too high. We have like 8 people applying to the program from my job alone!

I'm so bummed! The last info I heard from Ivy Tech here in Richmond is that we won't hear anything until at least early June. Yikes! This gives us very little time to get our ducks in a row before classes start!
