Hi All!
I find myself extremely interested in switching careers and becoming a RN. However, I have researched it and I will need to pass a test, TEAS! I have done the practice exam online and I'm finding it quite difficult. Any suggestions??? I am new to this so anything would help! Please ;-)

Kaytee,
The Test of Essential Academic Skills or TEAS is a test administered by ATI (Assessment Technologies Institute). ATI publishes a study guide to assist nursing student applicants in obtaining a better score on the TEAS. I believe ATI is updating the test and will be putting out version VI in a few weeks. I would speak to an academic advisor at the college or university you want to attend and find out what is the minimum score to attend and what is the average score of their nursing school applicants.
Also, make sure your nursing school is accredited by either the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) as this will be substantial when you look for a job at most hospitals or if you want to further your nursing education. Also, investigate the nursing schools first-time passing rate for the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses). Nursing schools with high first time passing rates are doing it right, schools with low first time passing rates aren't.

Hello Kaytee
The TEAS can be a bit challenging but not impossible. Depending on where you reside, nursing programs require certain scores to apply to their program. Though it's just best to try and score the most you can instead of settling for the bare minimum since we all know nursing is highly competitive.
The TEAS exam by ATI will be changing and become active after August 30th. So I suggest studying whatever new material they have to offer on the ATI website and take their practice tests. There's a study manual too if you'd like I hear scores increase the most taking their study materials. Other outside resources can also help give a feel for the topics covered, reading, math, science and English language usage. Just study each section and focus more on the questions you have difficulty in.
I'm sure you'll do great! Good luck with nursing!

The TEAS test needs to be done AFTER completion of some prerequisites, if you just do it blindly without that background knowledge you will fail. You putting the wagon before the horses. Step one is to decide which school/ college you hoping to go to and actually apply and get accepted. More people start of using the community/state college route. Step two is to start on your prerequisites. TEAS test comes in much later, at least for the route I took.
