teas prep help, Adkins Academy

Published

I took the TEAS test and I failed it twice and I am getting very discouraged I was just wondering if anybody knows of a good school that they went to and that helped them pass the TEAS test maybe a little crash course. I don't mind doing it online just as long as I past. I have one more chance and that's it. Please help me if you can. I was doing a little research online and stumbled upon a school called Adkins academy. Has anyone ever heard of that and if so I appreciate any reviews. Thank you

No, I have never heard of a Teas prep course. The Teas is just testing your basic fundamental knowledge of stuff. Not a whole lot to study if you already don't know it. The ATI manual and McGraw Hill Teas prep books did help me understand some of the science. What helped me greatly was taking certain classes. Like have you had English 111 and taken a basic algebra class? I had to take some remedial math classes at my school and that is what helped me on the math portion. Also having English 111 first really helped me in the Language section. I had also take Anatomy II and micro before I took the test and was glad I did because a lot of that stuff was on there. If you have already taken theses classes and still didn't score high enough, I would go back through the books on those classes and see if that helps you improve at all. If you haven't I would suggest you take them. They are all prereqs at my school.

Yes Ladybug. I used Adkins Academy and I scored high on my Teas and securrd

a seat for fall 2014. Adkins will cover everything you need to know. Excellent investment!!!

Hey don't feel bad I didn't do well the first time either when I took it last year. I took all the prerequisites and got A's and B's but I'm just not that good in those tests. I'm currently preparing to retake it in june. Reviewing with my tutor really helps. Good luck!! :)

What was your score after taking the adkin academy prep course for the teas if you don't mind me asking?

I did horrible on my first try... have to wait a whole year to apply again as the program is every fall. I know that I will have to take the TEAS V next February so I have time to study. I am considering Adkin Academy as well.

I am too I just spoke to Dr. Adkins and he is very professional and is motivating. I am going to start the following Sunday its an investment in our future. Good luck everyone.....

I really believe the Adkins Academy is the best way to get the score you need on the TEAS test. I did a thorough search on the Internet trying to find anything I could to help me with the TEAS Test before and during my time with the Adkins Academy. I found bits of information and videos that helped some but nothing like the full package I got with the Adkins Academy. The Adkins Academy is a live session with the founder of the Adkins Academy instructing you and a couple other students through each section of the TEAS test. You learn: the information that will be on the the test, you also get why other answers are wrong, a perspective of how ATI is writing the questions, strategies on how to navigate through each section and the individual subject matter presented, personal attention if you have a question or if you are struggling on something specific that can extend to individual time alone with the instructor. You need to study the book but I believe you need so much more and I found it in the Adkins Academy.

Hello ladybug,

I joined allnurses just so that I can respond to your question. I definitely recommend the Adkins academy! It helped me get a feel of what the TEAS test is like and what will be on it. It teaches different methods on how to answer questions on the TEAS and how to quickly do so. You also get questions from the academy that are as difficult as the ones on the TEAS to help you prepare for it. I went through the Adkins academy first and then I took my TEAS test for the first time. I was able to pass my first time and I really credit that to the academy. They guarantee a 78% or higher on the test, and if you don't score at that percent or higher than you will be allowed to retake the academy again. I scored above average for my school so I'm happy with what I got. I started off probably as you have reading the ATI book and studying on my own but I felt my studying was leading me the wrong way and after calling the academy I knew they would have better guidance for me. If it wasn't for the academy I'm sure I would have scored low, not because I'm lacking the knowledge to get a good score but because I personally feel like the ATI book was too broad for me where as the Atkins academy gets straight to the point. All in all I had a wonderful experience with Atkins Academy and would recommend it to anyone that is serious about the nursing field. Good luck!

I hope this helped, and if you have any other questions you can ask me. :)

May I ask how much it costs?

It cost 1,000 dollars hun! But so far so good....Honestly the teas can be prepared for....But I think it takes a certain strategy and Adkins Academy has already taught me how to approach the reading better....

The Adkins Academy is, by far, the very best TEAS prep course you can take! Dr. Brian Adkins is an amazing instructor. However, you must brace yourself: it's not cheap! But if there is any way that you can scrape together the $1000 tuition, it's totally worth it. I studied the ATI study manual cover to cover. What is lacking in the manual are core concepts that you don't necessarily put together when you're studying the manual. These are the concepts that you are tested on. Most pre nursing students that I hang out with are all A students. Out of the individuals that I know, a few did not pass the TEAS and those who did pass were very disappointed with their low scores.

Why is it that the majority of these smart students are not acing the TEAS? After taking the TEAS in March 2014, I understood why. And I was so glad that I had taken the Adkins Academy course. Here's my experience:

Initially I could not afford the course so I decided that I was going to just study on my own. I'm a smart girl... many people pass the TEAS, why wouldn't I?! Then as my friends began taking the TEAS and sharing their low scores, I became nervous and decided that this was too important to leave up to chance, so I signed up for the Adkins Academy course. At this point, I only had a few weeks until the deadline for me sit the TEAS and apply for upcoming programs. Even with all the studying I did, Dr. Adkins introduced core concepts and "connected the dots" for me -- especially in science (which is the most heavily weighted subject). Honestly, even if I had another month to study on my own, I would've never looked at the information in the "critical-thinking way" that Dr. Adkins explained it. After the Adkins Academy, I felt totally prepared and confident going into the test. And that is half the battle! I passed the TEAS on my first try in the Advanced category.

I would recommend studying the ATI manual and then taking the Adkins Academy course. One subject is taught per week, so you could totally do both the manual and the academy concurrently. Have you noticed that many reviews re: TEAS say something to the effect of, "looking back, everything on the TEAS was in the manual?" Well, it is, but the way you're tested on that information is different than how it's presented in the manual. The manual is great for review, but what it's missing, you'll find at the Adkins Academy. Dr. Brian Adkins is professional and he really cares about your success. Don't make the mistake I did! Grab your seat early and give yourself plenty of time to process the information. Take advantage of office hours to get additional questions answered. Best of luck to you all not just on the TEAS, but in your nursing career!
