TEAS Exam

Published

I am taking the TEAS this evening - I am so nervous about it - when I did the test in the study guides I felt like I was a stooge!! I have a degree from30 years ago - did I just get dumber as I got older? I thought we were supposed to be wiser!!

Sorry I am not usually a whiner - just stressed to the max right now!

I highly suggest the Kaplan nursing book. It's way better than any. I also recommend you purchase the ATI study guide also to help you fill in the gaps. the Kaplan was designed for the historic NET exam.

Well if it was designed for the NET, why would you want to use it for the TEAS? In my opinion the official TEAS Version 5 Study Guide is all you need. I wasted my money on a few different study guides, but none of the guides had questions set up exactly like what was on the TEAS test besides the official guide. Had I used only Kaplan and the NLN guide, I would have been in for a HUGE surprise when it came to the actual test questions.

Well if you buy the Kaplan from half.com, it's only $10. I personally think the math, science, and reading section from Kaplan is actually more useful than the ATI study guide. The only difference between the two is that the Kaplan booklet houses Analogies (Thank GOD the Tea's exempt it) and it's missing the grammar section. I also purchased the ATI practice exam (100 questions). Total waste of money. It did nothing for me because it was basically a half exam. Just my two cents.

Congrats! Your response calmed a little... I'm taking it in 2 weeks--TEAS V test. I'm so NERVOUS! Do you mind sharing how you studied? I have the following books:

McGraw Hill's guide to Nursing Entrance Exams- I bought it, because it was 8 practice exams

HESI Admission Assessment book

TEAS Version v Study Manual

TEAS Online Practice Assessment A & B

Kaplan's Nursing Admissions Study Guide

If you are good with math, English and grammar, then I'd just study the TEAS version 5 manual, and then study the science sections out of all the manuals. I think most people need to brush up on their science, since the national average was under 70% (the lowest section on the test). A couple of days before, do the tests in the ATI guide as well as online tests.

Memorize how to convert C to F, as well as miles, km, grams, mg, ml, l, etc.

Okay, thanks! As far as the science section goes... I know the A&P topics and I've been reviewing general biology and physics... but do you remember if there were a lot of physics questions? Also, some people say that they had questions about geology and astrology? haha... that's not in the ATI study manual, but I'm willing to find resources on the internet. I was just wondering if that was true--- that there are geology topics on the test.

Would you say that the ATI practice tests were harder/ easier than the actual TEAS V test?

Sorry to bombard you with all these questions... thanks for taking the time to read this!

I think the ATI test in the book was harder, I scored around an 80% on the test in the book, and scored a 94% on the real test.

There was a couple of geology questions: know your different rock types (metamorphic, sedimentary, igneous). Know different types of fault zones (subduction, transverse, divergent). Know how to balance a chemical equation, know the confusing chemical symbols (fe - iron, pb - lead, etc.)

I ended up using TEAS version 5 manualI had my TEAS test today and it really helped me I did great on every part just got to do english part again but i cant blame that on the book because I didnt study the English poition well. Thought i would do bad on science so I focused on tht and the book covered all the basic science parts tht was on my test!

Paraviviane What version of the teas did you take?

I used the Kaplan Nursing School Entrance Exams guide - it was very detailed and helpful as how to answer the questions!:yeah:

Did you take TEAS version V? What all did you do in the Kaplan study guide?

That's a great score! You should look at the percentil rank and go by that... that means you did better than 98% of the people and only 1% of the people who took the test did better than you... seeing how you can't get a 100%, it's out of 99%. Congratulations, though!!!! That's amazing! I will be taking mine in 2 weeks and I'm really nervous about the science section.
