School Nurses.....tell me how you are treated by the teachers in your school... Do you feel you are treated with respect ? I see so many head strong, selfish teachers these days. They seem to only want things their way concerning students. They have a hard time unterstanding that I cannot breech my scope of nursing and do as they order me to do. Do any of ya'll feel like you get no respect from teachers? :angryfire

They sometimes have no respect for our profession. I agree they do not really understand our jobs. A lot of them do use us for babysitters, for kids they don't want in the classroom. I had one teacher send me a little girl with a note, "She needs a haircut, YOU DO IT!" Can you beleive that, what would you say if your child came home with a hair cut? The child had a few tangles and probaly needed a brush. I was so hot with that letter, I wrote back, "I am a nurse , NOT A HAIRDRESSER!" :angryfire

I believe that teachers put down nurses so much because they are also an oppressed group. There is an lot of data on the theory of hoizontal violence in oppressed groups and between nurses (eating the young). I think we see the same thing with how teachers treat us. It is too dangerous to lash out out their oppressors, so they lash and diminish a "safe" target - us.

MY error............... :wink2:

We are actually school nurses who work in Pre K - 12th grade schools and we are talking about our co-workers who are education professionals, teachers of grades Pre K - 12.

I have to say by viewing other posts and hearing all kinds of stories....I'm very grateful that I don't have those type of instructor's. They make the world a difference...However, I do have a problem at some facilities with nurses.....I feel that I'm an obstacle rather than a student. I mean, weren't they a student once? I feel tension when I'm going to ask a question....It's sad, it shouldn't be that way....So, all you nurses out there...if you see a student nurse, just remember your roots, and how you were once planted.

Please keep in mind that we are only a handful of medical professionals in a sea of educators. We need to work hard to gain and keep the respect of those in education.

We need to prove ourselves as a key player in the education of students...we know we can. Remember, in the past, the school's main goal was to educate with the "4 R's"...times have changed...social, emotional and health issues play a key factor in a child's ability to learn as well as get an education.
