TCU accelerated program 2009

U.S.A. Texas

So... I've been lurking on here for a while, but no one has mentioned applying to TCU's accelerated program for May 2009 start. Anyone else?

I'm eagerly waiting to hear if I will be wearing purple scrubs...

Wow!!! I had no idea that there was a site out there like this one. I was actually searching for TCU purple scrubs when I found this site. I am going to be in the TCU accelerated program for 2009. I have a bachelor's in Finance which is absolutely useless in this economy as well. I gave birth to my daughter on the first day of the Fall semester and chose not to go back to work and to go to school full time.

I am hoping that my science background gives me a little edge...but we'll see.

At this point, TCU is the only school I've applied to. I would have applied to UNT but I would have needed to have taken three classes at UNT. I'm considering applying at TCC...the deadline is Feb 28. However, I'm just not sure about getting an Associates in nursing. I've read several posts on here lately where people are having trouble finding nursing jobs right out of school. It seems that hospitals are wanting nurses with experience. I never in a million years would have thought that nurses would have trouble finding jobs. So I'm just wondering if people would be more inclined to hire a nurse with a BSN as opposed to a nurse with an AAS. On the other hand, I would much rather prefer to pay the tuition at TCC as opposed to TCU.

With that being said, if I get into TCU then I will be ecstatic. And I will just bite the bullet and pay the astronomical tuition and hope that I can find a job right out of school.

UNT doesn't have a nursing school. Did you maybe mean another school? I went to UNT and can't believe they don't have a nursing degree; I used to talk to them all the time about it, and they would always say they r not even close to getting one! (2 years ago)...

Sorry, I meant UTA....

o it's ok, i was just surprised. I was pretty sure you meant another school. That's the problem with UTA: that you have to take the 3 classes before and not after you enter the nursing program.

Hi Holly and Cat in TX, this is awesome news and motivation to me.... I plan on applying in November 2009 for Summer 2010...I will be in touch with you to check on how things are going during your first semester. Congrats!!! :yelclap:

Cassie,

So, I guess I can't send a private message yet because I haven't had enough posts. Oh well....I am pretty sure that I am doing the CPR class on May 2nd. My name is Heather and I can't wait to meet you.

Specializes in MICU.

aug 06 grad -- we were the second class to do the program. great program

don't freak about $. Talk to Financial aid - even with you working now, they have a form that you fill out that states you will have to quit your job to do the 60+ hr week commitment program... and that you will need $ to live on.

I think the form is called an "exception" form. TCU is not going to let you drop out of the program because of $. You will be able to feed your kids and pay bills (but probably might eat some mac-n-cheese for 15 months... and no movies unless they are dollar movies).

Pm me if you have more ?s.

Thanks for the info, LifeLongStudent

It's good to hear that you think TCU has a great program. I've been on these boards for about a year now, and I have heard so many different stories about different nursing programs. Some people thoroughly enjoyed theirs, while others had nothing good to say. So far I hadn't really read anybody's opinion of TCU's accelerated program, so it was encouraging to hear someone say something positive about it. Thank you.

Anybody out there going to the CPR class on May 9th?

I'm taking it at HEB hospital, it's only $35 there.

Darn...wish I had checked into other places. I paid $94 to take it through the Red Cross...oh well

Hey! I am planning on applying in November as well for the class beginning in May 2010! I'm so nervous about applying! Have you taken the A2 test yet?

CONGRATS!!! I'm in the accelerated program now, so if you have questions....feel free to message me!

Hi everyone! I hope that you are all enjoying the program so far! I just got accepted to the Accelerated program beginning this May and I am so excited! I have a question that I was hoping one of you could answer for me. Does the accelerated program follow the normal TCU calendar for things like Thanksgiving break? I am asking because my Father in law is retiring this year and our family is planning to attend his retirement party over Thanksgiving weekend. School will absolutely come first for me no matter what, but I just want to let him know now that I won't be able to come if that is the case. Thank you so much for your help and advice in advance!
