Might sound stupid...but need opinions!
As a dog lover, dog owner, dog sitter (actually own my own pet sitting business), and dog rescuer, I am begging you not to get a dog right now. Owning a dog is a HUGE responsibility and acquiring one is a decision not to be made lightly. I have seen too many dogs in my line of work who are not given the amount of attention and, more importantly EXERCISE, that they require. These are the dogs that inevitably end up with "issues". I have also seen too many dogs surrendered to shelters because their owners didn't take the time to think about what a huge responsibility it really is to own a dog. In fact, I was at my local Humane Society two weeks ago and EVERY person in there was surrendering their OWN pet. It was sickening. Also, think about the fact that if you do get a dog you will not only be dealing with the stress of nursing school but also with the stress of a new dog. And, yes, it will be stressful. Yes, as someone stated earlier, dogs are able to go for long stretches of time. But these are dogs that have adjusted to their new homes and their new owners and they have a routine. Also, have you thought about the financial aspects of owning a dog? Trust me, it ain't cheap. You'll have to deal with vaccinations, flea/tick/heartworm preventitive, annual check-ups, teeth cleaning, spaying/neutering. And what about if it gets sick? Will you be able to pay for that? Will you be able to take time off from school to care for a sick animal? And once again I have seen too many dogs surrendered b/c their owners were unable to provide for them financially. You need to really understand what it means to be a RESPONSIBLE pet owner. And, I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with the poster that stated "it's just a dog". Those are exactly the kind of people who should NOT own dogs, or any other animal for that matter. Please wait until you have finished nursing school and are able to truly devote the time and energy to a new dog...as well as provide for it financially. It will be one of the best decisions you could ever make. And, please, when you do make the decision to get a dog...ADOPT!!

TCU accelerated program 2009
Thanks for the info, LifeLongStudent It's good to hear that you think TCU has a great program. I've been on these boards for about a year now, and I have heard so many different stories about different nursing programs. Some people thoroughly enjoyed theirs, while others had nothing good to say. So far I hadn't really read anybody's opinion of TCU's accelerated program, so it was encouraging to hear someone say something positive about it. Thank you. Anybody out there going to the CPR class on May 9th?

To my dear wife:
Borta, It is too early in the AM for me to feel weepy, but that's how I feel after reading your "letter". I am starting an accelerated BSN program in May and I have tried to prepare my husband for how hard it is going to be on BOTH of us. However, I have no fears b/c I happen to think I have the best husband in the world. I know that I can do anything with his love and support...he always has my back. It sounds like you and I are very lucky people to have such wonderful spouses. Give your wife a big "thank you" from me and good luck to you both!

Need Nursing Grants Or Scholarships Desperately!
Hi Addy, I know your post is from last summer. However, I am starting the accelerated BSN program at TCU in May and I am in the same boat. I was able to get enough in federal loans to get me through the Fall, but I will be short in May. And right now, loans for next summer are up in the air. I will have to re-apply for federal loans for next summer. I'm just curious what you ended up doing. Hope everything worked out for you. If you are in the accelerated program, how is it going?

TCU accelerated program 2009
Thanks panzy30- I have never been as nervous as I have been waiting to hear if I got into the program. That is great that you were able to get a scholarship...every little bit counts! I have to admit, the cost of tuition has really been weighing heavily on me. I keep wondering if I am crazy to go into so much debt. However, the thought of being through with a nursing program in 15 months almost makes it worth it...for me, anyway. You must be so excited being so close to the "finish line"! Good luck. I may be getting back to you if I get in just to see if you've got any advice.

Wow...a week or two. I really wasn't expecting to hear anything for at least another month. This is going to be the longest two weeks. Good luck to you both. Maybe we'll end up in nursing school together. Keep me posted. I'm Holly, BTW.

TCU accelerated program 2009
I found some posts from a couple of years ago regarding the Accelerated BSN program and those people didn't get acceptance letters until late March. I think we still have a while to go! acschott-Are you working right now? I don't have children so I can't speak from experience...but is there any way you could work part time? Probably not I'm guessing. Do you know if you will qualify for any grants? I'm not sure how that works but surely if you are single with children you would qualify for some kind of financial assistance aside from loans. With that being said, I'm pretty sure that they will loan you money to live on as well as money for tuition. I am still waiting on a tax form from a previous employer before I can update my financial aid info. I'm getting very nervous. I know what it feels like to worry not only about getting into the program...but also paying for it!

TCU accelerated program 2009
I am hoping that my science background gives me a little edge...but we'll see. At this point, TCU is the only school I've applied to. I would have applied to UNT but I would have needed to have taken three classes at UNT. I'm considering applying at TCC...the deadline is Feb 28. However, I'm just not sure about getting an Associates in nursing. I've read several posts on here lately where people are having trouble finding nursing jobs right out of school. It seems that hospitals are wanting nurses with experience. I never in a million years would have thought that nurses would have trouble finding jobs. So I'm just wondering if people would be more inclined to hire a nurse with a BSN as opposed to a nurse with an AAS. On the other hand, I would much rather prefer to pay the tuition at TCC as opposed to TCU. With that being said, if I get into TCU then I will be ecstatic. And I will just bite the bullet and pay the astronomical tuition and hope that I can find a job right out of school.

I have a BS in biology and an MS in environmental science...both completely useless degrees. I'm pretty sure we won't hear anything until at least March. In fact, I found an old post from someone who didn't hear anything until April. I'm thinking they must have been a last minute addition to the program, though.

I'm in the same boat you are. Just curious...what is your degree in? I'm just wondering how many people that applied have some sort of medical background. From what it sounds like we should hear something around March. My fingers are crossed...I really need this.
