TCC Fall 2014!!

U.S.A. Washington

Hi! I am looking for fellow classmates that are in TCC's fall quarter RN class. Anyone else receive the good news?!

Does anyone have any updates?

I forgot to mention that I did call the school yesterday and was told there was a glitch and they are trying to figure things out and should have an answer by the end of this week. She hinted at a redraw being likely stating they are not sure how else they would do it. IMHO - It seems the only fair, possible solution. I'm hoping if they redo the lottery, they do it this week. Definitely a nail biter!

I believe I talked to the nursing dept head today and they were very apologetic and said they are working on a solution. They sent out 20 confirmation letters BEFORE they realized their mistake. So being fair to those that got in and to those that weren't seems to be very challenging.

Any idea on a solution timeline?

I am also not sure why the letter matters. I have a copy of the results they posted. It says on the website that even 2-42 and odd 1-47 are winners and are in. If they are going to honor the letters they need to honor the results they posted. At this point it only seems fair to redo the lottery for everybody.

honestly they need to stop telling people anything till they have a solution.

Maybe (?) they should do the entire lottery over and those that got in on the malfunctioning draw whom aren't chosen again in this (hopefully) second round for Fall 14/Winter 15 draw, are automatically accepted into the Spring 15 cohort. If they happen to be drawn again, then no harm, no foul. I know Spring is a long ways out, but it beats not getting in at all. Just a thought. But they definitely need to completely redo the lottery over for everyone.

That sounds like a brilliant idea!!

My idea is to honor the 20 that got picked because it is in writing (and we all know how important documentation is in nursing). Have them start fall and just redraw for winter the way it was supposed to be done. That way they are not going back on their word and those that have good scores can start in winter.

That isn't fair, there are far fewer spots for almost the same amount of applicants. If the issue is it did not weight correctly then it does not give the highest scoring people the same chance as they had before. The letters should not hold anymore weight then what was posted on the website when it was drawn. You think you should be given a spot in the Fall because they had time Thursday to send your letters out but Winter people are just out of luck? Documentation is important in all aspects of life but so is being fair. Which in order to be fair to everybody they have to redo it all or keep the initial results and tell everybody it was a lottery so it is still random. The other idea is good because all people can an equal chance for fall and winter and for people already drawn get a guaranteed spot in spring if they lose.

They told me there was a problem with the weighted scores...they did not say whom those 20 people were (they could be fall AND winter stu, we don't know)... That's what I'm trying to get across, it was a regular lottery so just keep the results for fall and winter and draw for spring with the new requirements.

Of course you feel this way. You were picked with a score of 64. I completely understand your frustration. However, as Mrdj206 stated, there are far more people, 181 in fact, that did not get entered in to the lottery fairly. The letter they sent you is not a contract, to my understanding. I would think 181 of us have far more a complaint than the 47 that got in. We were "promised" via their website that a lottery would ensue based on a points system bearing weight on our individual scores. That did not happen, but it was in writing, correct? That was posted before you and the others selected received an email as a winner or snail mail verification. Had it been the old system of a general lottery, there would have been far more applicants. Hundreds more. I feel that paying the $70 to take the TEAS V test just to be a candidate into the TCC Nursing Program gives me and everyone else a fair shot at getting in based on their factors provided online before the lottery happened. If they don't redo the entire thing, I would think a reimbursement is in order. I figured there would definitely be a lower number of applicants due to the $70 TEAS V requirement. The "old system" you speak of did not require a TEAS V test or any application funds. My friend got in this way two years ago and was lucky enough to be picked out of almost 500 applicants. At this point is doesn't matter how any of us feel. They're going to do what they do and we have to probably sit by a accept their decision.

I received an email this morning telling me that communication in regards to the lottery will be posted to the website by the end of today. It didn't state if a new lottery would take place. I wish they would just share what their plan is.
