Tax Home?

Published

Do you legally need a home and pay rent on it to do travel nursing? Couldn't I just stay at my parents home for a short period time before I go on an assignment?

You can stay anywhere you wish and still travel. But without a tax home you are itinerant and will pay income tax on your housing, meals, and travel pay.

So that would be less money? Couldn't I just pay my mother like $300 a month and call that my tax home?

Call it anything you want. But from your description, you have no historical ties to your mother's house and are only using it as a convenience. You don't live there.

Thanks for the great resource, BD-RN. Here's an article from the site that specifically addresses questions about tax homes. Very helpful:

Ned gets the credit for that: he has posted info about that website long ago. It's very helpful.
