Tax deductions?

Does anyone know if you are able to write off exam fees in your taxes? I know in traditional schools they send you a statement at the end of the year that you can use for tax purposes but I didn't know if excelsior did? Thanks!

Excelsior sends out the tax forms with all educational charges.

Like JustBeachyNurse said, yes you can and they will send you statement for your taxes. Also, don't forget to keep track of what you have paid on any books (rented, new, used, whatever), study guides, PearsonVue fees, videos, supplies, Vangonotes, workshops... etc that did not come from Excelsior.

I didn't even think about the testing center fees or any of that!

Double check on test center fees with a CPA to ensure they count. Certain fees are not deductible. Just like application fees aren't deductible

Everything that doesn't fall under tuition will fall under 'other expenses' but only at the 2% AGI, but yes even your pencils are deductible.

I would caution you against asking for tax advice on a nursing forum, just as I wouldn't ask for nursing advice on a tax forum. ;) Best to consult a tax professional.
