Tattoo cover-up product review

Published

In searching through the forum I've yet to see many practical solutions for covering tattoos, or any alternatives to bulky long sleeves, lab coats or ineffective makeup. All discussion seems to devolve into arguments about the efficacy of tattooed practitioners, perceptions and first impressions, and the right to self expression. I really don't care about any of those arguments. I just want to talk products.

I haven't tried any of these yet, but the following is what I've discovered in my research. I am leaning toward trying pull-on arm sleeves. Do any of you have feedback about your results?

* flesh-colored arm sleeves from Tatjacket (tatjacket.com)

* arm warmers/sleeves from brands like DeFeet Sunskin, Coolmax, etc. (usually used for biking)

* Adhesive patches from Hideink (hideink.com)

* Veil Cover Cream

* Dermablend

* Tattoo Camo

I've got a full sleeve to the wrist on one arm, and to the elbow on the other. My tattoos show in anything I wear.

Whenever I need to show clear skin, I'm a huge proponent of Dermablend. Works wonders. You can vary how much you apply to where the tattoo barely shows through or is completely covered.

The easiest route is to wear long sleeves. I only do the Dermablend if I'm looking to go out for a night tat free, but other than that, don't hide your ink. Throw on a long sleeve if you have to.

Just want to say thanks for posting this information. I had no idea that such products even exist. I'll be trying dermablend. The last two organizations that I worked for did not require me to cover my tattoos, 2 of which are visible in scrubs. I am on my management clinical for RHIA currently and I have to wear a lab jacket every where to hide my tattoos. This clinical site is in Texas and it is too hot for a lab jacket. Wish I would have known of an alternative sooner.

Please post as to how Dermablend turns out!

I'm not yet in nursing school, but I want to be ready when the time comes (2012) to cover them in clinicals. I have a half sleeve plus forearm tattoos on both arms.

Specializes in special-needs kids.

Yes, very interesting about all of these products. i'm curious how long it takes to put Dermablend on: it's like cover-up, right? i usually run out of time to even put facial make up on some mornings, as i have two small outer forces (kids..). Long sleeves have always worked for me: less expensive, and i'm usually cold most of the day anyway, even with all of my running around. Thanks for posting this!

Lucky for you, not so simple for me. If I leave tape on for more than a few hours I get really itchy. Oddly, bandaides don't have that affect so I do use those at times, I have to use two large bandaides to get the job done though. Then they don't want to stick all day . . .

Has anyone tried the product on hideink.com?

Just thought I'd give you guys another option.. Walmart sells a product in cosmetics section.. Brand is Hard Candy and product is called Glamoflouge I believe :) Its a less expensive brand product (less than $10) compared to Kat Von D's tattoo cover up sold by Sephora.. There are videos on youtube that demonstrate the product and how to best cover tattoos. I don't have a tattoo so I wouldn't know, but I have heard amazing things about both the products I mentioned.

I know this is an old post but I thought I'd sign up and leave a comment in case someone else comes across this. I am a Law Enforcement Officer in Southern CA. About 2 years ago, my Department enacted a "no visible tattoo" policy, requiring me to look for options other than long sleeved uniform shirts (summers are a little too warm for that). I came across the tatjacket.com sleeves. Their "brown" sleeves are a perfect suntanned skin color. The sleeves are cooler than uniform sleeves. I purchased 4 pairs and have worn them for about 9 months a year for the past 2 years. I'm very happy with the fit and function of these sleeves and suggest them to anyone looking for an alternative to long sleeve uniforms or makeup.I hope this helps anyone searching for options.

I ended up getting a pair of similar sleeves, though I got them from a golfing web site. They're great!
