  1. Yes. I used to work on different units in the hospital and we supposedly had a two staff at all time rule in place but don't understand why it's different in our unit. I didn't mean to throw housekeeping topic into the equation. My point was there is one person in a small secluded area where there's no place to yell for help if needed because no one would hear taking care of five patients alone. I guess it's just time to protect my license and leave this position and possibly the organization since safety has not been proven to be a high level of importance.
  2. I guess it's just hard to fathom one person having so much responsibility...the safety of patients as well as my own personal safety for a twelve hour shift. I guess it will just take that one time for something serious to happen that it will change.
  3. The unit I have been in has been open a little over a year now and the staff has always been very hesitant and voiced our concerns for the lack of safety the current set up is for our small 8 bed observation unit. We are located behind the emergency department, however very isolated from the comings and goings of the hospital. We are in charge of nursing as well as housekeeping duties of these rooms and our patients stay from 24-48 hours. The set up currently consists of one nurse to 5 patients but we do not have a CNA/technician. We typically have two people per shift scheduled and when there are 5 or less majority of the time we are used as pull people to float and help which we can have 1-5 tasks in a twelve hour period. My question is this, in Illinois is there an actual rule/law that is set up that this is breaking? There have already been many safety concerns and I would just like to be able to bring to the table finally if this is an illegal practice to care for patients with only one person when patients are involved. It's just been very hard to think about and I love this unit. Just can't continue to risk my license when the unknown is going to end up happening. Thanks in advance for any input!
  4. What is it that your curious about?
  5. Hey guys--Just wishing you good luck!! I'm still in Danville after graduating from Lakeview May 2010 and currently working at the hospital you guys will be spending most of your time at :) The programs hard but worth it!! They have revamped a bit since I was a student, now have an amazing and so much fun dean, Irene. I work with one of their instructors and I still talk with some instructors from time to time! They are all amazing and very helpful :)Thatalbaniankid: did you find out about the school from joy ikeri? I saw you guys are friends on facebook! She's a major sweetie and I miss her bunches!! :) if you see her tell her Lyndsey says hello and hopes she is doing well :)Well if anyone has any questions about town/my experience with the school feel free to ask! Always loved helping new students because it's a scary experience I've been here for about four years, the towns starting to boom back economy wise.
  6. All I can tell you is they changed their process and now has a "boot camp" for new grads/new nurses to their facility.. The next one is May 9th... They have one orientation start date per month (2nd Monday) and they get back to you in a decent amount of time :) Good Luck! Danville, IL isn't that great of place to live.. but the hospital is great to their staff and teaching is pretty good
  7. The hospital that I did majority of my clinicals has a lot of openings.. Smaller town life, but really it's good to just get your experience and then be able to do whatever you want, and this includes relocating. http://www.provena.org Provena USMC is hospital I am talking about.
  8. Just thought I'd give you guys another option.. Walmart sells a product in cosmetics section.. Brand is Hard Candy and product is called Glamoflouge I believe :) Its a less expensive brand product (less than $10) compared to Kat Von D's tattoo cover up sold by Sephora.. There are videos on youtube that demonstrate the product and how to best cover tattoos. I don't have a tattoo so I wouldn't know, but I have heard amazing things about both the products I mentioned.
  9. Cumulative GPA is everything.
  10. The track has changed a lot since I went thru the program with admission criteria. The person you most likely can email to talk with is Connie Young ([email protected]) or call. I know the phones have changed because they just got a new system. There is a "checklist" of classes I know provided on the website to compare the classes you need to be able to get into the program. The school offers Statistics and some Chemistry classes to help balance what you need for admission. I graduated this past May and was on Danville's campus. It was a tough ride, a lot of mountains to climb, with obstacles coming from each class. You learn to be very flexible and go with the flow because things can change in a heartbeat, such as clinicals, check-out tests on skill times, things like that...(And you may want to pull your hair out a number of times for it).. All of the instructors are great people and are always there to help you with anything, but you do have to ask... Even though I am on the boat of looking for jobs, I am still thankful for my time at Lakeview. I learned so much, because I took the initiative to use our resources, our teachers/mentors and they changed me for the better :)
  11. I know how you feel When I took the first take on June 10, 2010 I had all 265 questions too and how mentally and physically draining that is! I as well took my retake yesterday (the 21st) and went about 9 hours until I finally decided to do the PVT because I really believed I failed again and didn't want the pain all over again, especially this time because my family was with me and we traveled and were in a hotel Saturday nite. I went down to the hotel business center at about 11:30pm and a big smile came across my face.. I went jumping down the hallway ( sorry to people in Springfield Raddison Hotel) lol back to my parents and I hotel's room to share the news of the good pop up. I can't wait for us to hear the news tomorrow!!! Good luck sweety!
  12. Lisa-- I have the book that we were given for the mandatory class my school made us all attend.. I know my classmates and I used it to look up certain areas that we were lost in but the Q banks are really the way to go to be honest. You know that I need to retake too, and I will be completing everything they provide. The qbanks are the MOST similar that you will come to with the questions me and you took on the Nclex. I am making sure I do them all before my 2nd take.... That is my honest opinion that it is the best way to go.
  13. Congrats-- I for one did not do as many Q-banks and the question trainers as I should have-- I had a lot going on the month after school and exam with personal/family issues and several deaths in the family/friends of the family and I knew if I would have allowed myself to sit down and do all the Kaplan I would have passed definetly. The questions are highly similar and if you can find somewhere where Kaplan goes over huge study tips/what mostly is covered on NCLEX, which there is somewhere because our instructor shared with us topics we should highly look over... and they were completely right, I would try to find them :) Good luck-- I will be on board again and Im going to finish ayll the qbanks and question trainers before Test 2.. I only got to I think 12 or 13% of Qbanks and did the first 4 trainers. Plus if you dont pass on the first time, which I hope everyone does-- They have a money back guarantee if you follow everything they say you have to make sure you completed--plus will give you more time online to study again from :) Good luck!
  14. Do it Kaplans is the closest to the test material... I promise 110%!!!
