I am starting this for anyone who is applying for the TCC RN program in August.
One thing to consider, is that many people on this site are go-getters and over-achievers. I know from talking to students at school, that people get into the program with B's. The nursing program is competitive so naturally, they are going to prioritize applicants by their selection factors which, in this case, happen to be science grades and hesi scores. I would stay positive and not give up hope! Also, keep in mind that a lot of students who apply, put their applications in at other schools too, so even if you're not selected in the first round, there's a good shot you'll be selected as an alternate. The waiting process is a killer but I wouldn't count yourself out because of a couple of B's. Best of luck to you!
Guys, just because you get a B in your science(s) class, its not the end of the world. I applied with one B in A&P I, and i was accepted, NOT on the alternates list. I cannot stress enough that there are more factors that come in to play when they look over your application. Just relax, and focus on the task in front of you, If you spend your time worrying about if you are getting in or not and you haven't applied yet, you are just stressing yourself out. Finish those classes and Save it for the application period when you will really need it.
Over-achievers, and go-getters, yes, yes we are, but thats the attitude you need. Get to comfortable and you are digging your own grave. Its mental. You think you're going to do great, and you will do great.
And I wont sugar coat it, it is competitive, its you versus 400+ other people. So don't worry about getting in right now, worry about getting those grades that will make you a good, competitive applicant. just my two cents.
And good luck for the rest of you guys getting your IM/SQ check off this week!
Just a note for y'all future nurses :-) I got in with 3-A's and 1-C. My GPA for sciences was a 3.5 and I made a 95.5% on the HESI and completed all my basics. A "B" won't kill your chances entirely! :-) But TXHusker is dead on - we're all very competitive go-getters and that's how we got to where we are. It's a beast getting in but once you do we're all on the same team, the competition turns in to an even playing field and you're all there to accomplish the same goal. I LOVE my clinical group and my instructors and it is HARD AS HELL! But so very, very rewarding. You'll love it!! :-DSo glad IM/SQ is done! And that UC is being pushed back. LOL Spring Break anyone?? :-)
Hard as hell is right! Two ppl from just one class have dropped out already. Others are borderline for either failing the DA (in my class) or the IM/SQ. A's are no longer my priority, I just want to stay in the program. Like you said Cross, a B won't kill the chances of getting in the program, but all B's which is what the other person was asking, ummm im not sure about that. Good luck everyone on the test next week.
i was SO relieved about UC getting pushed back!! BUT it does raise the bar, i assume that the grade you get for either UC or wound care is what you will get for both..
and i also love my clinical group, they are awesome, amazing, unique, people and whether you like it or not, you will be relying on each other to get through this. We laugh together on the good days, and cry together on the bad.
and rossy is right, i don't even care if i get an A, i just want to make it through!
and I CANNOT wait until spring break, sleepville here i come! after reading for theory of course....
goodluck everyone on the next exam!
BTW- i managed to find someone to switch mental health clinical sights with me. yay!
Rossy- im going to HEB, i was originally being sent to the VA hospital in dallas, which would have been at least a 2 hour drive [without traffic], so i would have had to leave my house around 530 am, and since we don't get out until 430, which is traffic time in dallas, i probably wouldn't get home until 6 or 7 which was WAY to long for me.
but i was lucky enough to find someone that wanted to go to the VA. HEB is still about a 45 min to an hour drive, but ill take it.

I couldnt agree with you more joshsmother. I feel like just because I get a B in a science course doesnt mean that I wont be a great nurse. It's kind of discouraging. But I am going to try my best and hope that it all works out. If not, I have no clue what my back up plan is =(
