Welcome! I thought it was time to start a new thread for TCC fall 2013 applicants and future hopefuls. I've followed the past 2 threads for TCC and there are at least a handful of us finishing up pre-requisites this summer and fall.

How is everyone coming along with their applications?

Are the HESI test dates available now?

@hvkicks I'm taking some online classes while we wait to start, so I'm not physically at any campus. I made a post on a previous page about my experience if you want to look at that, and I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.

What book did u use for the practice.. And can u tell me how to study the vocab, and the reading portion??

I used the "Evolve Reach Admission Assessment Exam review" book. I purchased it on Amazon, but I believe it's available in the bookstore at TCC.

The vocab portion of the book has a list of words and their definitions, I would study and try to know all of those. I also used the website Quizlet. Search for HESI vocab and it will bring up tons of flash cards with words that are and aren't in the review book. I would study all of those as well, and if you can, know them all. Lastly, I downloaded an app that had flashcards of all of the vocab in the book, as well as flash cards for the math portion (ratios, conversions, etc...). I'm not sure what the app was called, but it was the only one available in the Android market.

Between those three, There were maybe a handful of words on the HESI that I was unfamiliar with. My main tip for the vocab is to be sure to look at all the the words on Quizlet that are not in the study guide. I didn't pay as much attention to those, and quite a few were on the test.

As far as the reading portion, there is not much advice to give except that I would compare it to a high school TAKS test. Make sure to review what a summary is, and how to use context clues. Also be sure to review how to find the main idea of a passage, as there are quite a few questions on that.

Has anyone scheduled their Hesi test yet?

I scheduled mine for February 20th! I wanted to take it more than once so I have a few scores to choose from but I don't know where else we can take it.

I have a question.. You can take only 2 time for the hesi right???? I heard u can't take anymore than 2 time??? I'm getting a little confuse I went to barnes and noble to buy a hesi practice test and I see it a hesi a2 test.. On the hesi a2 they have science... If u taking hesi for Tcc, what does the test consist?? Reading, math, grammar, vocab?? If I'm missing anything let me know so I can study

You can take the HESI as many times as you want, but only once a semester through TCC. The HESI covers math, vocab, reading comprehension, and sciences, but TCC test you on sciences. If you take the HESI somewhere other than TCC and they test you on sciences, TCC won't look at the science scores
