Tarrant County College Fall 2012

So I think we are well into the application period so, surely it is time to start up this board. I can not wait until we hear back in May. Trying to keep very busy while waiting. Good luck to everyone applying!! Hopefully we can keep each other company here and celebrate our successes!!

I glanced at a picture in the manual before reading it and misunderstood. There actually is no way you can adjust the sound but regardless it does not hurt my ears!

Elizabeth, ok I'm getting it! So I looked at them on the ********.com website video and it said just apply more pressure to hear the higher frequencies...idk.

Glad to know it doesn't hurt your ears! I am soooo distracted if I'm not comfortable. I am returning some inexpensive scrubs that I bought b/c they are so scratchy and I HATE them. This weekend I'm going to try the Grey's Anatomy. They're more expensive, but I read a bunch of reviews and they sound great. Also I'm still trying to decide on shoes! If they aren't lightweight, I'm not going to wear them for several hours at a time. I just have this fear that I'm going to be wrestling with all of my stuff when I'm supposed to be working! :uhoh3:

Grey's Anatomy scrubs... you wont regret it. soft as heaven and very breathable material.

Shoes- i wore athletic shoes, i was running up and down the hospital halls, up and down the stairs, some people prefer clogs, i like my sneakers.

And for adjusting the sound of the steth. yes, apply more pressure to the diaphragm and the sounds will get louder, but as you get used to listening to the lung and heart sounds you wont need to apply as much pressure.

I was looking at the Grey's Anatomy scrubs too, I really like the way they look. I get hot easily, and I've had some scrubs in the past that were so stiff and felt like you were wearing plastic Lol. So I'm glad to hear these are breathable!

Thanks, very good to know. I have been looking at athletic shoes. I worry about getting stuff on them, but they are washable and I see nurses wearing them all of the time. Also, I've seen some pretty lightweight ones that are all leather. When the feet get tired....ugh!

Just signed up for the class at NE on the 13th of June. It was $38.00. I just registered and paid through web advisor. My kids are with their grandparents at a vacation bible school that week so, I'm going to knock it out while they're gone. If anyone else ends up in that class let me know.

I think I am going to sign up for this one as well.. I have stats @ NE campus in the evening but I really want to knock out CPR before August.. Seems like if I wait til after orientation it is going to be crazy insane trying to get everything done.

Does anyone know if this cert offered through continuing education is good for 2 years?

I just came back from the NW campus and registered for the CPR class. It is an AHA approved BLS for healthcare providers class. They only take 6 students per class and it is taught by an RN. I was #2 on the list so there are 4 spots left. She also mentioned there would be another class held in August(the 9th I think).

Specializes in LTAC, ICU, ER, Informatics.

All AHA CPR (BLS) certifications are good for 2 years.

As for getting gunk on shoes - it doesn't happen as often as you think it will, and they have these wonderful super-duper sanitizing wipes that they use for cleaning equipment, and it'll get pretty much anything you can get on shoes off, so long as they're leather or some other non-porous surface. The only thing that gets questionable is the shoe laces and they can be washed or replaced. (And yes, I'm enough of a germaphobe that I'll wash or replace my laces if I get them exposed to something yucky--- I think I'll probably end up in some sort of clog after I graduate)

Wow, this is tempting...it is 4 hrs shorter and less than half the price of the $38 one on webadvisor. Can you tell me what number you called Christin to get the info? Did you say July 12th? I may call Friday morning to verify they have any spots left and then go up there then since my husband is off work and can stay with the kids. I will have to look at a map b/c I have never been to the NW campus!

I'm going to try to go up to the NW campus tomorrow morning, hopefully since you were only the 2nd person there will still be plenty of spaces left by the time I get up there. Christin- Do we need cash or will the business office take cards?

vc - will you let me know how many spots are left if you go up there tomorrow to register? It will be Fri before I can make it up there. It will be fun to all take it together, and I bet we get more hands on training with only having 6 people in the class!! :yeah:
