So I think we are well into the application period so, surely it is time to start up this board. I can not wait until we hear back in May. Trying to keep very busy while waiting. Good luck to everyone applying!! Hopefully we can keep each other company here and celebrate our successes!!

Thanks you all!! I've already started shopping for items.

One thing that is reassuring me so much about this, is how awesome and supportive everyone has been on this and FB! I am excited to go through this experience with this group, everything happens like it is supposed to! Usually I am not sappy just a weak momement!

You said that perfectly B&C! I feel the same way! I can't wait to meet all of you! :)

vc1478,

Thank you so much for info. I tought I would finish all the requirement before the Aug. the 3rd. I guess I have to wait.

hey yall! i went up to the TCC Trinity River campus this afternoon and spoke with the nursing advisor there. =) i am going to try and be in the program for RN. ive decided to UTA BSN was just too much of a hastle to even try =/ i got some more info on the BS degree also. apparently its a partnership thru another college and will be implimented sometime within the next year =) CANT WAIT!! 1 yr of pre reqs and then time to apply :D :D :D HOPE EVERYONE IS DOING GREAT TODAY! oh one more thing! i also asked about the extra point classes to get into the program (like pharm and med terminology) he told me that they didnt have those classes count towards who was picked. just 3.5 gpa or better and higher than 90% on HESI. also depends on the pool of applicants (i believe someone was talking about extra points to get into TCC)

We need to all meet up before orientation so we will know when we see each other.

I even made friends in my sciences and this is WAY bigger than that!

We're going through nursing school together!!

:nurse:

Do you guys think when all scrubs say teal that it's the same teal? Should I order online or be safe and go to a store?

I don't think they are all the same teal. I've seen so many that say they are teal but they look very different from other teals. I just don't know how accurate they want the colors to be. I saw on the power point they have on the nursing page the on TCC website, when we were applying, that there are 3 girls on the first page and you can see the color of their pants. That might be the best way to compare to pants you are looking at. IDK just a thought! :)

omg! i wish i would have stumbled upon you guys sooner! ill be 2nd semester for mental health this july! and adult in fall!

congrats to all who got in!! im sure you guys are so excited! especially when you get to buy stuff! lol

i havent read through the entire forum, but referring to above about the teal pants, they are almost all the same. maybe a hint darker, not much thought, but word of advice, buy elastic waist if possible!!!! even the draw string with eleastic on the back will work. if you get the regular draw string pants, your going to be tugging and pulling them up during clinical, hard to keep them up! and when i bought mine, i went to the store to try them on and then bought them online and got them way cheaper!

you can get white scrub tops at garden ridge for like 2.50. they are cheap and i know, not stylish, but seriously, its not going to matter when you are running around the hospital floor, cleaning this, and doing that, its not a fashion show.

yes you do have to wait for the drug test [who ever asked earlier], they are scheduled, and have at least 45 min. to and hour and a half to wait, if it gets packed, they get slow.

make sure you guys get all your paperwork together and have everything sent in on time!

orientation is b-o-r-i-n-g. when you first get there it is fun, new people, new things, but as the day goes on, trust me you will be yawning. and you get schedules at the end of the meeting. they will introduce dosage calculations, [very easy, instructor is very nice, not a quiz, not a test, not a race, just an introduction], different instructors will talk and introduce themselves, feed you lunch. pay attention to who is talking, because atleast 2 if not 3 of them will most likely be your instructors!!! =) and then there will be a q&a and they will talk about tnsa.

in my honest opinion, you dont need a lab coat. i wore mine maybe once, seriously. you can just wear long sleeves under your scrubs if you get cold.

some tips id like to share to prepare. read, read, read! or you will be like "omg! i dont know what to study for, what to read, how and i going to prepare for this exam/that check-off" trust me!!!! take notes and do not be afraid to ask questions!!

the first few weeks are going to be crazy hectic, after you get through the cid's and you start getting assignments, the best thing to do is to be prepared and stay on top of things, get a planner and schedule your time out. its not going to be too bad around the first exam but boy, when you guys start doing skills check offs, its going to be one after another, literally as follows - exam, check off, exam, check off, exam, check off, bam bam bam, one week after another so plan your time accordingly. you will have exams over 15-20 chapters per exam, if not more.

i am a mother of twins and i worked during school so if i can do it, you guys can too!!

enjoy your summer until school starts! it is exciting! i know! but when the ball starts going, you are going to be wishing for that break to come back!! but please remember to enjoy the experience! you will make very close friends with the people around you and it will be sad when it comes to an end.

good luck guys and see you around campus! =)

AND another thing, textbooks.

you do not need the newest, up to date ones.

One of my friends found an older edition [of the foundations book] at half price books for $8, SAME material, diagrams, photos, everything. Only difference was the page numbers, but chapters where exactly the same. Save your money. [this goes for any of the books really]

you can download a free drug book on your phone if you have an Iphone or Android called MICROMEDEX, and YES they let you use them, just say you have it as an app on your phone, and the hospitals carry one too at each station [depends on the instructor, but mine was cool with it.]

the skills books, i bought my books and access code separately and i actually waited until school started to buy all of my access codes, you dont need them for the first day of school. They will have a computer orientation during clinical and you will have the opportunity to buy it online during that time, BUT if you want to buy it ahead of time, that would be okay too.

txhusker-SN THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! I know we all appreciate it so much when y'all give us advice!!
