Tampa/St. Pete's Pay

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hey all,

I know this has been beat to death, but searching this topic brings up and old thread from 2007. I'm a nurse with a year of experience and my BSN that is having to apply to hospitals in the area coming up in a few months with my wife going to U. of South Florida for grad school.

Currently I'm making $28/hr in Michigan. I realize the pay probably won't be as close to that since I live in a pretty high cost of living city right now (Ann Arbor). But any insight would be great as to what I can expect when I do apply and any hospitals you would recommend or deter me from.

Thanks a lot,

Steve

No one working in the tampa Bay Area?

I'm in the Tampa area and applying like crazy up north to get out of here. TGH is decent. No hospitals in St Pete are good for nurses. I had some clinicals at Bayfront and they're pretty awful. Lousy pay, ghetto patients. St Pete and Tampa are pretty ghetto.

Hi, I currently live in Michigan (Metro Detroit area) and I am about to relocate to Tampa this week! Like you, I am currently making about $28/hour, but I was offered a job with one of the hospitals in Baycare Health System. I was offered a full time, day shift position, that pays a little over $25/hour there. I have a little less than one year experience and I am still pursuing my BSN. I'm pretty sure someone with more than a year experience and a BSN would get offered more money. So the pay is lower than Michigan, but not enough to deter me from moving.

I've also tried to get information about the best hospitals and pay, but most of the info is old. So the only way to really know is to experience it for myself and hope for the best. It's going to be a big change, and people can only post on what they've personally experienced, whether negative or positive. Hopefully you end up being one of the one's that love your new job and are glad that you made the move. Good luck to you!

Good luck, I left Florida for Michigan (AA) after 5 years as a nurse due to dismal pay and benefits, if you're in a specialty unit check out Florida Hospital, they were advertising on Facebook bonuses and relocation assistance. They wouldn't be in this current staffing crunch if they'd paid current employees a more livable wage over the past few years. They are non union as well so it's difficult to really negotiate anything until you have certifications and hefty experience on your resume.

I am from Lansing Mi, just graduated with an ADN.

i accepted a position at Florida Hospital Tampa, pay is 24.78, 4.50 for nights, 1.50 weekend, not sure about speciality diff.

I hsve no hospital exp, but 8 yr med passing experience in assisted livings in MI. 4.0 on all nursing courses. I'm 24, ADN.

Also got 5k relocatoon.

hope that helps OP

OMG... how did you get that job? I've been applying like crazy with no real results. I have over 1 year experience as an ADN.

Idk I think just my experience and grades in school. Also I am a male, maybe that helps.
