I am relocating from Indiana to the Tampa area. I have started classes for my LPN. Can you suggest a good school in the Tampa area for LPN's. Thank you!
Has anyone heard anything about LPN's being phased out in Tampahospitals? I've been thinking about taking the LPN at Erwin in January but
I want to make sure its a good decision.
LPNs are not being "phased out". There are a ton of jobs for them in hospitals, nursing homes and MD offices/clinics. TGH is the only hospital that does not usually hire LPNs. I say "usually" because I know a LPN (7/05 grad) who was recently hired in the ER @TGH, but she has a TON of experience.
If you haven't already been accepted at Erwin and assigned for the Jan class, you won't get in. They do an orientation each summer for applicants, who then go into a lottery that is drawn in the fall. They fill four classes at a time. You end up waiting, sometimes up to a year, but it's worth the wait. I did some RN pre-reqs at HCC while I waited for my class to start.
I am a Practical Nursing Instructor at Erwin and love teaching there. I believe we have a very strong program that not only prepares you for your PN career but puts you well on your track to bridging to become an RN.
I encourage you to visit Erwin for yourself if you have not done so yet. Stop by Student Services and ask to speak with Ms. Bari Self. She's the counselor for our program and she's wonderful! Or, you can go to our website: http://www.erwintech.org.
Hey everyone,...and anyone waiting on the lottery list for any other schools PTEC no longer has a waiting list. All you need to apply to their Jan 07 program is: TABE scores (if you don't have a degree, which I have so I was exempted), RN NET scores higher than 50, proof of insurance, $115, 15 for application and 100 to hold your spot, shot records, and you have to order online your background check which is about 48 bucks...but you can do that, print your receipt turn around and apply to the program.....and that is about it. I submitted my application today and I was number 17 out of 30 so there are only 13 spots left, but if you bring this stuff down within the next few days....you're in for Jan 8, 2007........yeah!!! Although not my first choice, I feel so good knowing I'm on my way.

This is great information. We are planning on renting at first, to learn the area and where we would want to live on a more 'permanent' basis. My husband is down there right now trying to get established and seems to like the Brandon area as well. I'll have him look into Oldsmar, too. Thanks again.
