Tampa Galen LPN to rn accreditation

Published

Does anyone know if tampa Galen's school is nationally accredited? I was interested in trying to work at Bay Pines VA after I graduate from there program but was told the VA does not hire Galen RNs because the school is not nationally accredited. Does anyone possibly have any info on this? Thanks

The school's accreditation should be listed on their website. Have you looked?

The VA only hires graduates of ACEN- or CCNE-accredited programs; that is the "national" accreditation that whoever told you this was referring to. Lots of other healthcare employers have the same policy (not all, or even most -- but a growing number).

Specializes in Emergency.

They are regionally accredited with SACS, but do not have the ACEN accreditation. They are candidates though so hopefully all works out and they soon will be.

To add to this, they are expecting on onsite visit for this accredidation early next year if I remember correctly from their email. As for the VA, your right, until they get this accredidation you would be out of luck for a job...another thought though...are you considering going on for your bachelors? If so, transfer to a program that is nationally accredited (if theirs doesn't happen) and complete their program. I have heard that USF will accept the transfer from other students. I know excelsior will because I have contacted them personally. The reason I say this is because these programs are nationally accredited and honestly, the push is towards BSNs in hospitals eventually so if your going back to school and want to be in that line of work long perm, may as well get it over with.
