Tampa area nursing schools

U.S.A. Florida

:confused:Hello.. My name is Michele. I have been a CNA for around 6 1/2 yrs. I just turned 40yrs. :( Its time to move on and continue in the medical field but not as a nursing assistant. I can do so much better and more as a lpn.. I applied to two schools but did not do well on my entrance exam.. I still plan on continuing and not give up! I just need any information on schools in the bay area.. I'm figuring I would do better in a technical school. The tabe/teas entrance is holding me back but with all the studying I do some school has to accept me! Thank you in advance for any comments or suggestions you may have!:crying2:

Again, Erwin does NOT have awaiting list. Where are you getting that from? Also, if nursing is what you want to do , go for it. Just as their as hiring issues for nursing, it's the same for other careers so I won't let that deter you.

Erwin will put you in the first available class after you pass your TEAS. My friends past in June and Aug of ths year and wereput in the MArch 2011 class. During their down time, they took a CNA class and passed boards and also took college classes.

For you if you pass your teas , you can always take anatomy and physiology at HCC or medical terminology or nutrition or psych class at HCC which will help you at Erwin.

I would stay away from Allied Health. I met a former HCC student that i took A&P with who went to Allied. She passed her NCLex and got a job at Memorial hOspital, told me that she would not reccommend Allied as you basically taughtyour self. That school was over $18k

I will just have to call erwin directly.. There website said their is a waiting list. The price of some of these schools are ridiculous. College is charging $40,000 for their RN program! But you know the cost of education is not cheap.

I have thought of the same things you listed. After passing the entrance exam, depending on how long before school starts I wanted to take courses in my free time. That way I can be ahead. Have some kind of knowledge before schools starts.

I'm so glad you shared that information about Allied Health. That's another school I thought about contacting. Its something to check out because you know you cant the advice of one person who had a bad experience.

this is the information found on the erwin tech website:

applications are currently being accepted for the october 2011 day class

and the january 2012 evening class.

that's true but it's not a waiting list.It 's just that the previous classes have been filled. When the time is open for them to accept applications, you drop of your app, take the Tabe, if you pass at 12th grade, then when they set the TEAS classes up, you register and take the TEAS.

Usually, they know the scores in about 3-7days. If you score at 72% you are offered a seat in the next available class. It's basically 2011 now. I would start to study and review basic math/language, take some mock tests so that you are prepared to take the TABE. I know someone who had to take the TABE 3xs before passing and she passed College Algebra at HCC (had trouble with fractions/test taking issues).

Passing and preparing for these tests can take 2-6mths so don't let Oct 2011 put you off. You can register for Spring and Summer classes at a community college taking English/Math/Anatomy/Psych/Sociology etc

I went to Allied with the friend who is going to Erwin and they gave a very good spiel but it's $19k to talk to several students if you can. Good luck

I'm going to be taking my TEAS exam in March. They use version V now. The school said that the minimum score is 60%. I guess it has changed from 72% (?)

Yes, but the previous TEAS acceptance score was 70 or 72% so ..... I know someone who just took it last week and got 12.9 on the TABE both portions and also past the TEAS so you can do it. This person has no prior pre reqs in science/anatomy etc so if you prepare, you can do it.

Cool. I am studying the study guide, hopefully I will do well. The science part seems very difficult. I think the test is harder now since they lowered to minimum score! Thanks for the encouragement. :yeah:
