taking the TEAS soon...

Published

Hello :)

I am applying to Sumner college in Portland, OR for their Associate of Applied Science Degree in Registered Nursing. Everything is looking really good and all I need to do to be accepted now is pass the TEAS V exam. I plan on going out this week and buying some study materials, I plan to take the TEAS at the end of May. Any suggestions on how/what to study. Thanks in advance!!

I forgot to ask, are you using a book to study for the TEAS? If so what is it called? I need to pick one up and look over it!

Haha. I was actually accepted at Concorde as well. I was supposed to start their lpn program next month. I live in southern Oregon so there were too many things I needed to get done before moving up to Portland so we move my start date to October. Recently a friend of mine that lives up there told me about sumners new RN program and since my ultimate goal has always been to get my RN I jumped on this opportunity.

I've also completed a lot of nursing pre reqs at my local community college. When I applied to Concorde I had to take the teas. So knowing what the layout consists of makes me feel a little more at ease. I'm retaking them for this new program hoping to score as high as I can which will give me more points to hopefully be accepted into the RN program.

I googled Oregon office of degree authorization and went to the contact tab and sent them an email. That's when they replied and told me everything's in check with the school :) ive been talking to Gary at sumner and he's told me just a few things, pricing (around 40,000) which doesn't seem that bad considering I was going to pay 20 something for my lpn at Concorde. He's told me that all clinicals will be Portland. He's told me that they will have to start dates each year. A morning and evening class. They will be accepting around 25 students into the am class and another 25 into the pm class. Originally their plan was to offer the first start date in June and the second one in December. I'm interested in the second start date. That would give me all summer to continue working as a medical assistant and save more money for the move.

I am currently using two books to study. The first is the McGraw hill teas practice test book. The second is teas v secrets book. Both are very helpful.

That's great to hear that the new location of the program would be close to you.

I've looked up the course description on their website and it looks intense but I am so hoping I get in and I am so ready for this.

How long have you known you wanted to be a nurse for?

Do you know if we can use our TEAS scores from Concorde? I think I did pretty well. I talked with Gary today and he didn't give me much information. I feel like 50 spots isn't much... I wonder how many applicants there will be. I've always wanted to do RN since before high school but figured the LPN route would be best because Im tired of taking pre reqs and am just ready to start school. 40 grand isn't bad... Concorde is close to 30 for LPN. I just really want to get in. I would like to do the December start date too as I want to work a lot this summer. I wonder if since we've taken some classes if we will get credit like they would do t Concorde. Keep me posted if you hear anything more. Maybe we will be in the same class if everything goes the way we want :)

I was googling stuff again :) and I found a job posting from Summer dated May 2nd that says they ate hiring teachers for an accredited RN program set to start this fall! Looks like we may be getting calls to start taking our tests!

Thats great that you found a posting for teaching jobs there, they're moving in the right direction :)

Im not sure if you can use your old TEAS scores, I think I asked the same thing and I believe I was told I had to retake them, but try asking.

Ugh, I just want to take the test so I can start working on the essays and get everything done. The sooner I can get everything done, the better for me.

I will keep you up to date if I hear anything else.

Lets stay in touch, hopefully we will be able to start the program together, plus since your from the area, hopefully you can give me some suggestions as to where to reside (thats if I get in:) )

I emailed ODA yesterday just to see for myself what they had to say about the approval. They emailed me back that they had been approved. I also ordered two study guides for the test. Im wondering when we will hear from the school? I'm going to contact them tomorrow in regards to financial aid an see what they have a far as options for paying for school. Im getting anxious to get started!

The school needs to hurry up and gives us more info! lol.

What study guides did you order??

Contacting the school in regards to financial aid is a good idea, the earlier we get that taken care of the sooner we can move on to other things. I just want to know when the classes are going to start!! Im getting very anxious myself...hopefully we will know more soon...idk how much longer I can wait :)

I havent heard anything yet either. Lisa is suppose to send out the information to us (if you gave her your e-mail spoked to her) once the whole thing is approved right?

Yeah, yesterday I spoke with Gary and he told me they are getting close to sending us out info :) He even double checked that they had all my contact info. goodness, this whole waiting thing is horrible! haha. I just want to get started with the app process.

I tried sending u a private msg but i dont knwo this thing said something about having 15 topics and so on.

Any woh thanks for the information. I just called Lisa not to long ago to see if they were sending out that info..lol

Im nervous & excited. how is your practice/study going?

I've had a lil delay with it because of my work. But im still gettin some done. & now expecially since my hubby will be home soon. that will help ALOT! (hes been gone for a year)

So do you think the classes will begin on Dec?

Im nervous..lol... Need to stay positive & work hard to get accepted

Hmm, yeah, ive tried using the PM thing but it didnt let me either.

Im very nervous and excited. I havent been studying as much as I know I can, work and nice sunny weather has got in the way :) Knowing that they are sending enough soon is making me get back at it though!

Thats great that your hubby will be back soon. Im sure that will be of much help in many ways.

I know they were wanting to start in June but since its taking forever to get things started I am assuming they are going with their second start date of december, which is ideal for me.

And yes, we need to stay positive and work hard to get in...I keep having dreams about being in nursing school, hopefully thats a good sign :)

Ill see if this thing will let me send you a PM, Ill give you my email address so we can stay in touch, haha, I just noticed how long this thread is getting.

Happy Friday!

I replied to your PM, not sure if you received it. Anyways, I checked the website and they did remove the link to their RN program...hmmm

heres what i am thinking, they are finally updating it with all the info for the program(wishful thinking I know, but it kinda makes sense! :)

I will keep my eye and contact them monday!

Ok so i have to check my PM because that thing stated that it hadnt been sent..weird!

I know the weather is finally coming around, I wish we had more of this weather through out the year. I would serioulsy love it here (more than L.A.) if it wasnt for all the constant rain.

Yeah i would think they would start untill December. June would be pushing it since im sure they have alot of work to get started on their end.

That sounds like good news to me. I know it sounds crz but when i was in Dental Asst school i had Deja vu about being in class with the blue scrubs and all.. so make that dream come true :)

I hadnt cought that only because you mentioned how long it was :lol2:.

I'll stick with your wishfull thinking and keep that in mind.. its all because they are updating their website...

ok happy friday & we will stay in touch ;)
