Hello :)
I am applying to Sumner college in Portland, OR for their Associate of Applied Science Degree in Registered Nursing. Everything is looking really good and all I need to do to be accepted now is pass the TEAS V exam. I plan on going out this week and buying some study materials, I plan to take the TEAS at the end of May. Any suggestions on how/what to study. Thanks in advance!!

Here are some of the things I am using to study.
ATI Study Guide - TEAS Products
McGraw Hill TEAS Study Book - Amazon.com: McGraw-Hill's Nursing School Entrance Exams (9780071599375): Thomas Evangelist, Tamra Orr, Judy Unrein: Books
TEAS Practice Test iPhone App - TEAS Practice Test & Questions for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad on the iTunes App Store
I like the McGraw Hill and the iPhone app the best. The McGraw Hill book does a good job at explaining the details of each concept and the iPhone app is a great way to study on the go and test what you’ve learned. The app also provides answer explanations which helps me understand why I got questions wrong and how to solve them the correct way.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!
Thank you both for your replies :)
I am currently using the McGraw Hill book and the secret to the teas book.
I am planning on getting the TEAS iphone app as well. Thank you!

So I went ahead and i got the ATI study book over the weekend and i received a call back.
Has anyone else heard that the RN program for SUmner college is still pending on final approval of the program?
I was going to start of with LPN and when i found out about the RN i started getting all the information i could. I was told to continue with LPN and then once the program for RN actually started i could take the TEAS and continue with the RN half way through the program since i would complete the LPN first.
Have any of you heard any of this? she said it could still be 3-6 months more (it was going to start in June 25th but i guess not)
Hey LULU7
It looks like they are in the final steps of being approved, I checked the BON and was told the same.
I spoke with the school last week and was told to start studying for the TEAS. They informed me that they would be calling all the interested RN students the first week of May to schedule them for the TEAS test. I was told that the program would be offered twice a year, the first start date will be June 25th and the second one will be in December, that is the one I am interested in. If I were you I would just go for the RN. I was in the same boat as you...I was supposed to start at Concorde in June for the LPN but when I heard about Sumners new RN program I decided this would be best for me since my ultimate goal has always been to become an RN.
Where are you from? Portland? Best of luck, hopefully we can stay in contact since we are both interested in the same program at the same school :)
Patty i like in Oregon City
And i was told the same thing last week just that this week on Monday i received the call, but i guess your right its a great oportunity to study the RN with no pre-req.
Well since the date has been pushed back (She said another 3-6 months) and from what she said they wont be starting on June 25th then i guess i have a bit more time to study the TEAS exam. Either way Im very thrilled about entering Sumner for this program. Have you completed your FASFA yet? I had received the school code but not sure if its different because i had originally inquired about the LPN...
Im also looking to start in December so lets keep in touch.
I am beyond thrilled as well. I was told that the first step is to take the TEAS, if we pass with at least a 59% then we go on to complete two essay questions. I have started studying for the TEAS as well, I have already taken them once for the other school I was going to do the LPN program at so I know what the layout looks like. I asked the lady when she recommended I take the TEAS since I was looking at starting the program in December and she recommended the earlier the better that way I know as far in advance if I made it :) I live in southern oregon so knowing months in advance would be ideal since I would have a lot to do for the move. Im going to call the school soon just to see where things stand. If I hear anything new I will let you know. Hopefully it goes well for the both of us and we can start together in June.
:yelclap:
I just checked their website and it looks like they were approved by the BON and are now waiting for the final approval of the Office of Degree Authorization (ODA). So they are getting closer :))
Oh wow atleast you have an idea what to espect on the TEAS exam. Im so nervous because i havent studied anything in the past 4 yrs (other than what i do at my job)
is it difficult? Im starting to brush up on my math and then I plan to get into the Science part. the readin/writing/english part is the least of my worries for now.
So you will beging (if available) on the 25th of June? Good luck i think i need alot of study before i try to aim for June.
And yes 59% is 1 poin and it gies up to 84% + which would give you 6 points. The more points we can earn the better chances of being accepted.
Originally the testing for the TEAS would start on May 15&16th Ill try and prepare my self for that date and if i feel ready i guess ill aim for June too :)
Yes, I feel having taken this test before will really help me out. What is it that you do at your job? I have been working as a medical assistant for the last 3 years and have really enjoyed it :)
The test is very time consuming. Honestly, when I first took it I was sick to my stomach with the nerves!! I finished the test in about 3 maybe 3 1/2 hours. The only section that got to me was the science. I have recently taken A & P courses and only got a few questions on that subject. The rest were earth sceince question, some chemisty. So I'm brushing up on that this time around.
June is too soon for me. My boyfriend and I have our house that we would need to rent out before moving. We need to find renters plus look for an apartment in Portland. So if all goes well I would be looking to start when the second start date occurs, around December. Are you wanting to start in June? Are you looking at doing the AM or PM classes? Im hoping to find a part time job, work some hours...hopefully thats possible. I know nursing school will be very time consuming. Im thankful my boyfriend will be moving with me, it will be great to have a support system.
We need to aim for as many points as we can. If we score 6 points on the TEAS we are automatically accepted!!!! :)
I am wanting to take the TEAS in May or June as well. Knowing in advance if Im accepted would be ideal. It will give me lots of time to prepare for the move.
Actually im not in the medical field at all! which is why im nervous and unsure if i would even get accepted. Ive done Dental Asst. Im currently and office Asst. tho. But im just so interested in this field and i know this is what i want.
:eek:Wow! 3+ hrs, Ugh i wonder how much info i can get & study from the science portion. I honestly havent taken a science class since HS which is about 7 yrs ago. I think i will see Lisa and take the cpat exam as she sujested first. She said she can tell if i would make it into the RN by that exam. Not quite sure how, but well shes the expert!
Im really aiming for December. & wish you luck on your move. I think i would be better off in the morning. This way i would be more focused. Same goes for me, I hope my job will be flexible with me because i would like to stay part time atleast untill they send us out to do the practicums because i know our schedule will be changing very often. My hubby is currently in Mexico, i just hope he can be home soon so i can start the program. Thats the actual reason im waiting till Dec. having someone who helps you push forward makes everything seem so much easier than it really is, so i know what you mean.
Im really nervous. Im scared of how i will do in the science section of the TEAS. :uhoh21:
I feel good about everything else. like i said just need to do an overview but ugh ... im breaking my head over the science portion.
