Taking NCLEX in two weeks! But I have acrylic nails...

Published

I'm so nervous. I'm taking NCLEX in two weeks and I've been studying nonstop. My question is... I have acrylic nails with designs (I went all out with rhinestones, designs, etc.) to celebrate being done with nursing school. My concern is that with all the designs on my nails, will Pearson VUE give me a hard time before I take the test? Will they think I'm trying to cheat with all these rhinestones? Should I take them off? I really don't want to, but I feel so conflicted. Anyone have any advice as to how I should handle this?

You got me curious, how can rhinestones be considered cheating?! Second: easy solution, what is more important for you passing nclex or your pretty nails? Third: call them and as if it is ok to have acrylic nails, just don't ask if it is it considered cheating lol. Good luck :)

Thanks for the reply! My professor told me that Pearson Vue can be strict with everything from clothes you wear to the rim size of your glasses. Ever since, I've been so paranoid about it. I just thought they might think I was hiding formulas in these itty-bitty rhinestones lol. Obviously passing is most important, but just wanted to see if anyone thought it would be an issue. I called the test center and they said they didn't think it would be an issue. The lady put me on hold after I asked which made me wonder if she was laughing at my stupid question. I'm bringing a nail cutter with me and acetone just in case! :lol2:

Ahahahahaahahahaha your post just cracked me up. All I know is that they are very strict, don't give them any reasons that can potentially cause a problem. Good luck :)

to be on the safe side: I would take them off, you dont want them putting your results on hold or not allowing you to test.

I just tested last week and when I was waiting to be called back they were telling another woman that her glasses were too big, so that fact is true. They said the rims were too think so she couldn't wear them in and she tried to fight with them saying that's the only way she can see. I felt so bad for her, who is honestly going to go buy a new set of glasses just to take a test?!?! I would be safe and take them off, don't ruin your chances on something like nails.

Hi Lucy, why are they strict about glasses? Why does it matter if they r big, small or thick? Just curious....

No kidding! How was the poor woman supposed to see to read the questions!? I usually wear contacts, but decided to wear my glasses on test day because I didn't want the possibility of having an annoying contact acting up and distracting me. If they had said something about my glasses, I would have been floored. Talk about ridiculous!

Thanks for the advice guys. Just being so unsure of everything I'm just going to take the rhinestones off. My nails are painted a solid color aside from that which shouldn't be a problem. I'm planning on going in early to see what they'll say. I'm bringing a nail cutter too just in case they say the length is too long.

About the glasses, I find it a bit ridiculous. My professor said that if the rims are too thick then you could hide notes on them, somehow? I think they should just inspect the glasses if anything.

PS - As far as the nails, when I started reading, I did think it seemed like an odd worry ... But I guess I agree with others. You're going to be on edge enough on test day. I'd remove them to not have that on your mind on top of just test stress.

i'd remove them just to be on the safe side.

oh... you do realize that virtually everywhere that employs rns and lpns won't let you wear fake nails, don't you?

I know it's definitely an odd worry but I know that the testing centers do not play around. They're up the wall with all their restrictions which is understandable but some are a bit absurd. :uhoh21:
