hi prince,
good luck writing on tthe 27th. i just finished writing this january and passed...checked the bon website and looks like they just issued the license....whhheeeeee!!! yiippeeee!!
so i can say for certain what you really need to focus on and seeing as its only th 13th today...if you study you should be able to ace it. you must, must, must understand infection control--what protective gear to wear, etc for the commonest diseases--you know like c-diff, measles, mrsa...and so on. i would recommend you find a good resource for that. hopefully something online for free.... also need to know prioritization, delegation...very important. which patient to go to first...usually 2 right answers on my test anyway, so very hard to pick.
and then all the basic stuff, nursing of adult, child, mental health, and maternity. i used the saunders book, 4th ed. for the comprehensive on everything. can use old nsg notes too. i used kaplan for strategy and mosby' q&a book for more in depth questions on each area (this is a huge book w/ lots of questions...i didn't get to use it as much as i wish i could have). i used that little book for nclex medications...only took a day to go through it so it was worthwhile and a good simple review of classes of meds and major side effects/considerations to watch out for.
just before the exam i went through my weakest areas one last time--for me that was maternity and mental health.
for labs i had them all one one piece of paper so it was easy to refer back to when i studied instead of all scattered all over my notes. who knows maybe you can get this already done for you for free online. umm...good to have it in this format cuz they give you an erasable board and marker when you get in there so if you have kind of it photograph memorized in your head you can just re-scribble it alll down when you get in there...i wished i had known that ahead of time...it would have saved me a lot of study time.
i wish you really, really good luck on the exam...

Hey
I'm also taking the test on the 27th. God help us!!! Sometimes I feel good about taking it and sometimes I feel confused as to whether I'm ready. I'm starting a review class this weekend and I'll try to get their honest opinion on whether I should take it on the 27th. This is my 4th time taking this test and I surely don't want to mess up and rush this process yet again. The other times I took it I was in upper division schooling where you don't need your RN just yet. But right now I need it because if I don't pass this time around I won't be able to start next semester and that sucks in so many ways. But anyways I've been doing Saunders and I get mixed scores. I do kaplan and it surely is hard but I read the rationale. I know that I have to finish my priority and delegation book by this weekend by lacharity to make sure I'm doing that right. Infection control is a must! I feel like there's so much and so little time but I feel like that's how we'll always feel. You'll never feel like you know enough for this test, just be confident and pray that God is by your side! Medications is also a must I bought the Kaplan Medications you need to know for the exam and am trying to memorize or apply them to certain situations. I also am taking an extra day with the review I was talking about which is Helen Feur where they have a whole day just for pharmacology, I hope it helps! I will pass the boards and SO will you!!!!

Hello everyone...
I also will write the NCLEX this January 27th for the first time. But Im not so sure if I'll pass it or not. Because I'm taking care of my 2 year old daughter (Full- time). Her nanny left us couple of days before new years eve and she never returned as she promised she would . So now I kinda accepted that I might fail. I don't attend any live review classes nor read and answer questions . Im not anxious for the exam just easy about it. But Im still waiting and hoping for a new nanny any day from now as I already called the agency. My plan is as soon as a new nanny comes in and works for me I'll catch up on my review as I have a whole lot of catching up. But who knows when I should start doing that. Its all kinda my fault. Right now Im juggling Nursing Graduate School, single parenting and NCLEX review all at the same time so God help me..What should happen, I'll keep it posted in here. Good luck to us NCLEX takers.

Saunder's Comprehensive review is an awesome book to read! I took the NCLEX once and did not pass, took little odds and ends jobs for about 4 years, studied this book and passed on the second try! You can do it!
