Taking entire A&P sequence over the summer?

Published

I am considering taking the whole A&P sequence over the summer and would like some feedback. It is three classes, back to back for 12 weeks. Class for 3 hours and lab for 3 hours 4 days per week. If I can get all 3 done with A's then I can apply to nursing school one year earlier.

Has anyone done this or is doing it? Any advice? Would you do it again? I have three kiddos at home, 18 mos, 5 and 7 and plenty of help from my spouse.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I haven't, but I wish you luck! Anything is possible if you are determined to do it!!

You will run circles around me with that schedule. I have 3 kids at home too but they are school age. Im only taking A&P 2 this summer. All I can say is that I couldnt do it, but that doesnt mean that you cant. Good luck~

I did something similar last summer and got A's in both. It was an intensive A&P class, though most schools only require 2 classes of A&P where I live. It was 4 weeks for A&P 1 and another 4 weeks for A&P 2. My class/lab was 4 hours, Mon-Thurs. I think I would do it again. By the end of the 8 weeks, our A&P class was very cohesive and tight with each other. It was a nice feeling to be all done with A&P after summer quarter.

Honestly, I would do it again. I found the class to be very doable. It all came down to time management. For some reason, summer quarters are always my best quarters. Maybe I suffer from seasonal affective disorder or something. That being said, I really didn't have any obligations over the summer. Not sure how I would have done with children to take care of as well. Sounds like you have a supportive environment though. I say got for it! :) It will be worth it in the end.

I believe that those schools on the semester system have 2 A&P courses and those of us on the quarter system, have 3 courses. Some of the universities in Oregon have this summer program. It sounds like a lot to digest in 3 months. If you have not taken a cell biology or basic chemistry, you may be a little lost. Memorizing anatomy is the easy part. Understanding how each system works can be very complicated. Prepare your family for a lot of grouchy evenings and weekends. If you can get it done, kudos to you.

I'm on the quarter system and I'm from the Seattle area. Most schools here require only 2 quarters of A&P, whether it be strictly anatomy first, then physiology...or combining the two such as A&P 1, and A&P 2. It really just depends where you are. :)
