Taking CNA Course in Spring

Hi there!

I'm enrolling into my Spring CNA course and was wondering if anyone had some useful tips? I've never really done anything like this, and was just wondering what to expect. I know that it's going to depend on the school but I'm just curious about the basic things. :)

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi I actually just got my CNA certification this past June.

Be ready to do lots and lots of reading. Pay very close attention when doing the clinical portion of your course work. Take notes, and do not be afraid to ask questions. The Clinical portion will be vital to passing the CNA exam being it's random what you will be tested on, but you need to know it all. Practice, practice, practice the clinical steps as often as you can. I actually did some of them on my Mom when timed allowed. Do extra practice after class if times allowed.

I hope this helps some. Feel free to ask other questions.

I agree! Practice your skills as often as possible. Say all the steps out loud and don't skip anything "because I already know to close the curtain"....

It's stressful during the state exam and by saying and doing each step when practicing will help ingrain it into your mind.

READ required reading!!!

This is the most important thing. After all, CNA work is what you do everyday to yourself (ADLs). However, preparing for the skills evaluation was the most stressful for me, simply because you need to remember to say "close curtain", "wash hands", etc. Just remember privacy and safety! Good luck.
