Hi allnurses,
Is there anyone out there applying to Tacoma Community College for Fall/Winter 2016/2017? Or that has applied last year? What is considered a competitive score for the point system? What was the scores they let in last year? I know 100 pts is the highest score but how low are they accepting into the program? Also I would like to know if your currently in the RN nursing program if you find it a positive or negative experience? I heard they have a new building and new equipment. Do you think it is a good program? Any feedback is appreciated. I saw previous threads on Tacoma Community College but would like some more recent comments. Thank you.
You're given base points to begin with, and then you'll receive xtra points for being military, A's in some classes, having some type of medical license, etc. basically, the higher your points, the better odds you have of getting in. It looks like they changed the point system since I applied, but same premise. I'd say, you really want to study for the TEAS exam before taking it. The TEAS tripped me up.
Pretty much. I will say that when I first applied, I didn't get in. There were about 140 applicants and only 30 picked. But, the next round they raised the TEAS scores and only 39 were able to apply and 24 got in. Great odds. I assume it's still the same. Most importantly is passing the TEAS.
Hi there. I'm Winter Quarter as well. Just want to make sure you're aware that 6th quarter does go through the Summer 2018. We graduate in August. My friend just went through this at TCC, started Winter 2015, graduated August 2016. Our preceptorship runs throught Summer 2018. I don't believe it has changed.
My mistake, you are correct.
I just applied at TCC and Pierce college for this upcoming year. What was the daily class schedule like for TCC? Did you work at all while in school?
Work is totally doable. Although schedules may change from quarter to quarter, my last two quarters at TCC have been set up like this:
Monday: 13:00-16:00
Tuesday: 13:00-16:00
Wednesday: 8 hours of clinical, either day shift or evening shift
Thursday: no class
Friday: lab from 8:00-12:00
Most everyone in my class quit their jobs, only a few still worked. I suppose some. An work and do nursing school at the same time, but I have a family, so that would be too difficult for me.
On average I put in about 50 hrs a week (class-time, clinicals, projects, and READING!) it really is rigorous.
