Tacoma Community College 2016/2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi allnurses,

Is there anyone out there applying to Tacoma Community College for Fall/Winter 2016/2017? Or that has applied last year? What is considered a competitive score for the point system? What was the scores they let in last year? I know 100 pts is the highest score but how low are they accepting into the program? Also I would like to know if your currently in the RN nursing program if you find it a positive or negative experience? I heard they have a new building and new equipment. Do you think it is a good program? Any feedback is appreciated. I saw previous threads on Tacoma Community College but would like some more recent comments. Thank you.

I have not. My guess is that we'll receive an mass-email on Monday (the day the acceptance email and pre-orientation email are due).

I also replied to the original email with an "I accept" statement. I then sent a separate email with my signed statement scanned and attached. I didn't receive a reply but when I sent a third email asking for confirmation that it had been received so I could alert the other school to my change in plans she replied pretty quick saying she got it. That's all so far. I also think we will get our packet emailed tomorrow or Monday. I've just used the application guide to gather everything I know they'll want. Records of immunizations and CPR card and such. I've had no luck trying to figure out what books we'll need.

Got the email today with our orientation packet. There are quite a few things that need done by Wednesday. I got started today and it is all pretty self explanatory. The only thing I haven't seen yet is the Student Handbook. Apparently we need to sign an acknowledgment. Has anyone seen this yet?

As of this morning I have not seen the Student Handbook.

You're right though, there is quite a bit to get done! Are you already completely up to date on your immunizations? I have to finish those up. It looks like the records need to be uploaded by the 15th if I'm not mistaken?

How about the CPR and HIV training, have you completed that already?

Do you guys have to do a background check right away? Yay! Orientation tomorrow for you all. I am so excited for you all. I purchased my school supplies and uniforms, stethoscope, white shoes and a whole bunch of other stuff in anticipation of Winter quarter.

(I bought pens, pencils, highlighters, paper, erasers, binders, student planner, index cards, printer paper, labels, and dry erase markers....good back to school sales)

I think I have all my immunizations done. I just finished 2 step TB. And I updated my CPR recently but I did HIV training with my CNA years ago, do you think it is still good? Or I could start working on this if I need too.

I have my CPR and HIV training done already and current. Got those with my CNA class and the HIV training doesn't expire.

Oh that's good to know the HIV training doesn't expire.

I still have to do the CPR and HIV training. I'm signed up for both though and will have them finished next week! Looking forward to orientation tomorrow and more info on all the things I'll need to get done asap!

How did orientation go? Was it real informative?

It was fine. Lots of paperwork, going over the manual, how to buy books and supplies, received our class schedule, asking and answering questions, etc. We also had a tour of the simulation lab, which looks AMAZING.

Oh boy! Sounds informative. I was on campus yesterday and met a Fall cohort and she mentioned that the tour of the simulation lab was amazing. She explained you were divided into three groups of 8 for clinicals. Then into two groups of 4 for simulation lab. She also mentioned I would need a clipboard and a tablet, like a Surface 3 or Samsung galaxy for ebooks. But she said the Surface 3 might be too big to fit in clipboard for clinical. (I will have to see).

Hi guys,

Are you going to use a rolling backpack for college? Or just a clinical bag for clinicals? I don't know if I will need a rolling backpack or not. If I understand correctly we only have one hard copy textbook and the rest or ebooks. Are you going to take your notes on one note or on college ruled paper and binder? I guess all I would have for lecture would be tablet or laptop, binder and the one textbook. And I would carry a pocket holder for pencils, pens, small stapler, etc. I don't know if having a rolling backpack is wise. Are we mainly in bldg. 13 of the Health career building. (oh there is three flights of stairs...) Oh well just thinking this through and wanted your opinion...
